Comment on These Twists and Turns of Fate

    This was, put simply and succinctly, a work of beauty. Pure, unadulterated, heartbreaking, heartwarming, joyously horrible and beautiful.....EVERYTHING

    This is the very first comment I have written on a fanfic, and my very first bookmark as well, because I just read the entire thing and I have tears welling in my eyes and spent almost the entire story making high-pitched noises of terror and delight.

    I have been, for years, an unapologetic Stephanie Brown fanboy, to extents that have confused many of my friends. Her adventures as Spoiler, and as Batgirl, and as StephBabs in Smallville (Because she is Stephanie Brown, no matter if her name was changed to Barbara Gordon) have had a solid place in my heart as one of my singular, most favorite of all comic characters. I wasn't looking for this story just now, and I didn't know what I'd be getting, but I just set up a character search for her and....wow.

    Everything here was believable, fitting with the continuity-as-it-would-have-been and established characterization. It all flowed so smoothly from one to the next, and even the characters which popped in only for individual scenes were right (Oh, Renee.....sweet, beautiful, Renee). I've already made a thread on a forum I belong to recommending this, because it hit me THAT hard.

      Oh my god, thank you so much for your kind words and thoughtful feedback!

      Stephanie Brown is a character who I have always adored and identified with, so I have always found it easy to get into her head. (and yes, Smallville "Babs" is totally Steph). I'm glad a character search for her led you to my fic though! I poured a lot of time and effort into this, and I'm glad that you, a fellow fan, thinks it does her justice.

      A lot of this was really meant to be a fix-it fic as well as a "rule 63" AU, so I was definitely having fun trying to streamline and make sense of continuity. (Renee is one of my favorite characters of all time, as well as one of the characters that brought me well and truly into DC comics--Gotham Central was my first comic, and it was really influential for me). I'm so flattered that you liked this fic so much!

        Oh, you are preaching to the choir when it comes to Renee and Gotham Central, she is literally the reason that I got into comics. After re-watching the episode "P.O.V" from Batman: The Animated Series a few years ago I decided to follow up on her adventures, and I started with 52 and then traced her history back through Gotham Central, No Man's Land and other comics. It worked out perfectly as well since that brought me in at the exact launch of Steph's Batgirl series, so I caught that at the ground floor. The entire Gotham crew, in fact (Maggie and Kate and the BoP). I'm such a fan of her and related characters and stories that, well....
