Thanks If I may ask ,why this type ? The manga says is The best, but I just can't imagine it being more useful than having a multiple tentacle rinkaku. If I were to choose I probably would have given him something more like Eto s kagune - the appearance would make for a way more dramatic complex over its use . Plus ... a kagune this small and simple makes him fell kind of weak
So this ties in with a few headcanons I have about kagune type. So, in an incredibly general sense, i think about kagune in terms of "slash vs stab" and rinkaku are generally stabby. They are good at taking stress at the points, and they tend to puncture, have rough "scaley" textures to shred things, and are not nearly as strong against things that hit their kagune from the sides: this makes them poor defensive tools, as they can easily be punctured and cut. In my head, that is why rinkaku are weak to bikaku, which is a slicing type. Bikaku tend to be smooth and more flat than a rinkaku, but possess edges. They kagune itself tends to swipe and flail. It's not weak at a particular type of fighting, but they tend to be heavy/dense, which makes them weak to higher speed ukaku.
so, i don't think any one type is the "best" but they do have defined weaknesses. now, in this fic, I decided to give izuku a bikaku for a few reasons. One, he still has a preoccupation with punching/stabbing motions because he still wants to be like All Might. I thought having a kagune ill suited to that would be a fun parallel to canon's "shoot style." For another, I just think bikakus are neat tbh. they don't get as much screen time as other kagune types, and i always thought they were cool. There are some other reasons, but those are the main two
now, addressing the weak part, I would say that Izuku would be weak with any kagune type at this point because he is chronically malnourished. he also purposefully keeps his quirk small to conserve energy, and so that it isn't as obvious a match to the quirk he used before he had a lot of control over it's shape/the much larger one he used against eraserhead in a panic.
furthermore, it feels kind of pointless for me to write about super strong characters. izuku's main weapon is his brain and his determination to be good. he avoids conflict when he can, and picks up skills that will help him achieve his goals without quirk use. he doesn't want to be noticed for his quirk. hes incredibly ashamed of his quirk, and he honestly would prefer to be quirkless at this point because he dosen't want to hurt people, and his quirk is incredibly dangerous to the people he loves. He's willing to use it because he recognizes that it IS strong, and he wants to use that strength to protect people. so i don't really mind if he feels weak/isn't as BAMF as some shounen protags because I'm not really interested in writing about the strongest character. im interested in writing someone intrinsically good, someone with a strong moral compass and flawed coping mechanisms, be put into a really rough circumstance and slowly learn to rely on others and trust that he can be loved. the cannibalism is just for funsies lol
