What's wrong with you? What's wrong with me? I wrote it after all. There's a very real appeal in taking a character through absolutely horrible things to see how they respond. The challenge is always to keep them true tonwho they are, even as the events of the storiws change them.
There are a lot of things that went the way they did in A:tLA because it's a children's show, and going in a different direction would have been too dark in too adult a way, and I feel like this is one of the possibilities that is believable within the universe created but impossible given the audience. And we all know those are my favorite AU premises.
