I agree that Petunia gets a bit of a bad rap as a child. Her treatment of Harry as an adult is inexcusable, but I think a reasonable person can empathize with her as a little girl, not liking Snape (and maybe not just because he's poor and from a bad part of town) and feeling betrayed by him and Lily for sharing in something she doesn't have and never will. I also doubt it was easy growing up with Lily as everyone's favorite, and clearly being the more social and well-liked of the two. In this AU, it's even worse perhaps because Lily is the elder sister, and Petunia knows she will never measure up to her in academics, personality, or appearance.
