Comment on Archive Roadmap 2010

  1. First of all, I want to say that you have done a wonderful job creating this archive. I appreciate everything accomplished thus far, and the experience of posting my stories here was remarkably painless compared to my experiences with other archives.

I also wanted to comment on the list of possible features for the future. Most of them do nothing for me, but if other users want them, that's fine. Besides, I can hardly stop you from creating and implementing them, and wouldn't want to if I could. Two of them -- the 'option to list your presence in other services' and 'to disable comments' might have a certain usefulness in the future.

However, the 'option to list beta in a dedicated field' bugs me. I don't care to know who was the beta on a story, and I don't understand why other people care. So what? Other people do care, it seems, and that's fine for them, but I don't want to know. If you do bring in this beta option, is there some way I could filter this information out? One of the pleasures of reading fiction at this archive is not seeing the names of betas up there alongside the writers as if they were co-authors or something. If they are co-authors they should be listed as such, in my opinion.

Also, about the beta search service, could the advertisements for betas be put in an obscure little corner, and not plastered all over the archive at every turn?

Otherwise, I think your archive is a huge success. :-)))
