Tim began to tap one of his fingers against the steering wheel in time with the beat of the song, when he was suddenly thrown from inside his car. He felt his body lift and crash against his seatbelt, door, and the roof of his car. An incessant ringing replaced the flow of Mr. Brightside, and his vision was replaced by darkness. A few moments later and he regained a sluggish coherency, he glanced around himself. The ringing continued, but was slowly quieted, then he heard laughter. Shit. -

After a run-in with some hi-tech goons, Tim wakes up in a universe where Bruce enjoys his company. Where Jason never died, where Dick never gave Robin to a murderous Demon Brat who, it seemed, wasn’t even around.
He goes to sleep, happy.
And wakes up back in his original world, where he feels like a ghost among the living, forgotten and cold and alone.
The one where Tim switches between worlds whenever he falls asleep.

Summary
Tim is five years old when he drowns in his parents' pool. He dies quietly, waiting for parents who love him, but will never be there, to realise that something is wrong. They never show up, and he sinks into oblivion.
When he wakes up and claws his way out of the water, the sun has set, and the lights of his house are on. He is cold and wet and his lungs burn.
But most of all, Tim is alone.
