Amid hunting monsters and trying to establish himself in his father’s eyes, Loki finds himself thoroughly distracted by American millionaire scientist Tony Stark. And when he realizes Stark might hold the key to end Britain’s suffering, Odin tasks him with securing the engineer’s help.

“Alright, alright, you got me,” Stark sounded exasperated, incapable of bearing the silence. “I will do one business meeting – as in the number one, a singular meeting – in exchange for dinner. Look at me, do you want me on my knees, begging? I just really want to pick your brain.”
“Wednesday,” Loki said automatically. “Eleven. Bor & Sons offices.”
“Done,” Stark said with a grimace. “Dinner on Friday, and I get to pick the place!”
Loki blinked at the mild chaos that Stark left in his wake and found that he hadn’t agreed to dinner, at all.

When Odin finds a newborn babe in the war-torn wasteland that is Jotunheim, he takes it home; Frigga is the one to insist they must treat it as their own, and Odin loves her, so he obliges.
And then she dies, and Odin has no time for a child that only reminds him of the very thing he lost - he barely has time for his own young, grieving son.
So he locks it in the Vault, and calls it a trophy from the frozen realm.

AU-Canon Divergence:
King Paimon of the Ars Goetia had his son’s entire future planned out. He found him a wife when he was ten, taught him how to use the spells out of his grimoire, and raised him to be a proper prince. True, Paimon did it because that was the expectation as the father of a Goetia prince, but also because it made taking care of this annoying little owl a Hell of a lot easier. All Paimon had to do was sit back and let the action take its course.
That was until a month before Stolas’ wedding.
They had one month to go, one fucking month when Paimon stumbled upon his son making a goddamn nest in the goddamn greenhouse.

That had not been expected. The frowns around them deepened.

Remember that quest? The Old Friend of Mine quest in Witcher 1, where one best friend met another after years of grieving? Remember how such a powerful premise came out about as emotional and moving as a wet fart?
This fic should work, though, even if you never played the first game. 'Loved one comes back from the dead' is a pretty simple trope, after all, and the drama is the important thing.
