Summary
There was something sweetly solemn about the gentle falling of snow in time with the flutter of Lan Zhan’s lashes. It had become an almost nightly routine for him to gaze at the moon and wonder. Wonder endlessly about the paths he could’ve chosen— the people he couldve saved. These were the wonderings that have plagued Lan Zhan’s mind for the past 50 years since— since Lan Zhan uttered his last words.
“Wei Ying.”
His lips have stayed resolutely shut since— figuratively. He never spoke words or sentences; his mouth resigned to only be used for eating, breathing, and sobbing. The last one he tried to avoid as much as possible, but despite common belief he was not made of jade. Though often, when he looked in the mirror, his reflection read of the face of a statue made of crystal. It wasn’t purposeful, his slow descent into an oath of silence, but he found after he said that name there were no other words so important that he would waste breath on them. So he simply stopped. There wasn’t much difference to his usual stoic silence other than the occasional noncommittal ‘yes’ and ‘no’ morphing into hums.
50 years is a long time to wait.

Summary
Behind them, footsteps, and both of them turned with the quickness of those who expected an attack. But it was only Lan Wangji, coming from around the building. Jiang Cheng just turned around again and kept walking, hardly thinking much of it. But Wei Wuxian saw what was in his hand. A bloody white rose.
His heart leapt for a single moment, and they stared at each other. Before Lan Wangji had a chance to speak. Wei Wuxian turned and rushed after his brother.
“Wei Ying!”
He couldn’t even look back. He ran past Jiang Cheng and knocked him in the shoulder, hands clenched into fists. He didn’t spare a single look back.

Summary
“Or maybe Lan Qiren knows you want to bother Lan Wangji so he sent a curse to stop you."
“Ha ha,” Wei Wuxian mocks, throwing out a weak glare that does no damage, “I don’t want to bother Lan Zhan—"
As soon as Wei Wuxian finishes saying Lan Wangji’s name, the same feeling from before overwhelms him. This time, when he finishes coughing up the flower—this one catching terribly in his mouth, the head blooming widely within the confines of his teeth as the stem comes up, making the petals tear as he spits it onto the ground—it’s a flower he recognizes. A pink tulip, mostly intact, and appearing as if it had been plucked from a garden and not yanked from somewhere within Wei Wuxian’s chest.
Wei Wuxian flirts with the wrong florist and ends up with a curse that forces to accept more than a few things he's decided to ignore about himself.

Summary
When he could finally speak, Lan Wangji straightened so he could look into Wei Ying’s eyes, pouring all his yearning into the question, all his deeply buried hopes, his fear, his heartbreak, his devastation, his aching joy. “Come back to Gusu with me,” he begged. He couldn’t conceive of what he’d do if Wei Ying said no—perhaps disintegrate into dust.
“Yes,” Wei Ying said and Lan Wangji’s relief was so acute it was as if he were splintering from the inside out. “Yes,” he repeated. “I’ll come back to Gusu with you.”
---
Lan Wangji grieves Wei Ying's death, raises A-Yuan, and plants a garden. Three years later, Wei Wuxian returns.
