Summary
On the Planet of his birth, Cloud had destroyed Sephiroth years ago. The reactors are long cold, the world is saved, and he and Tifa keep their little family in remembrance of the dead.
In this new dimension, it's like the apocalypse Cloud remembers was half-averted. Mako's still around, ShinRa's in business, and Tifa supposedly died years ago under Cloud's JENOVA-fueled rampage. The other problem? Everyone's alive, looking for answers, and this dimension is a little more different than it seems.
It's hard, taking out reactors while being hunted across the continent by the people who are apparently your soulmates. It's hard, and no one understands.

“Is this a fucking joke?” Strife asks, almost shouting but trying to prevent a scene.
The salesman responds but Genesis is too busy looking down at the newspaper clutched in his hands to pay attention to the conversation anymore. An impossible headline sits in front of him.

Below it, a black and white picture of Sephiroth, standing proud and tall in front of a battalion of troops and not at all an insane egomaniac with a mother complex. His hands shaking, Genesis looks back at the top of the paper to find the date. “July 21, 1999,” it reads.

“Alright. Do you remember how you got here, Strife?”
The man scans his person, his face, and then makes full eye contact with him for the first time. Suddenly, Tseng feels like he’s staring down something more than just an injured man in a hospital bed. Strife’s eyes are the most vivid shade of blue he’s ever seen, the mako in them enhancing the natural color rather than smothering it and bringing attention to the slight ring of bright green around his pupils. They pin him into his seat, strip him down and unearth every piece of himself he tries to bury and make him feel small, weak, unworthy. And, just like that, Strife looks away, back down at his hands. Tseng is winded, feeling like he’s just run a marathon and fought off a horde of monsters, but he collects himself quickly - he’s a Turk, damn it - and forces his body to relax back into his chair.

Cloud doesn't know how or why he traveled through time, but he's sure as fuck gonna take advantage of it. Now, if only certain people would leave him the hell alone and let him save them, he'd be a lot happier about the whole thing.
