Summary
This story tells a slightly different version of Thorin's reaction to learning that Bilbo has given the Arkenstone to Bard. In his anger, the dwarf hurts the hobbit both physically as well as emotionally. The other dwarves (specifically Balin) must keep Bilbo safe from Thorin until the King Under the Mountain comes to his senses. (Reposted from my fanfiction account - with quite a few edits and expansions. Originally published in 2014.)

Summary
“You will fall just the same as they,” Smaug bellowed. “Madness will be your penance, thief. Only madness and death await you.”
Bilbo did not put much thought into the words of the dragon. Even as the dwarves fell one by one to the gold-sickness, even as Bilbo crept away to stare at the Arkenstone he kept tucked away deep within his pockets, he did not think much of it.
Then he died. And then, he woke up. And it happened all over again. And again. And again and again and again.

Summary
Jude Callaway wakes up a baby hobbit. To go back home she needs to save the lives of two dwarves she's never met. Cue worming her way onto a quest to recover a mountain of gold, lying to everyone she knows, and making a fool of herself riding a pony. She's selfish and scared and just wants to return to her family, but even though she knows the future, she has no control over it.
"What reason does she have to join us? The wild is no place for soft beings.”
Marigold bristled. “Soft? You do not know me, Oakenshield. And don’t you dare to presume otherwise. As far as my purpose, it's none of your business.”
“I am the leader of this company. The safety of this company is my business.”
“Safety?" she replied. "You are leading these dwarves across Middle Earth to win back a mountain of gold from a dragon. Do not pretend to care about their safety.”
Marigold watched with satisfaction as Thorin ground his teeth. “Smaug has not been seen in many years. He is presumed dead.”
She smiled darkly at him. “Oh, he is very much alive.” -
