“What do I get out of it?” Neil asked.
“Pardon?”
“I'm assuming I won't be playing,” he reiterated, “nearly as much as the rest of the team or not at all- and don’t try to tell me any different because I can tell from your lot,” Neil gestured to Ralph and the rest of them. “That you love to pick up lost causes. So, what do I get out of filling your line so you can throw balls to each other.”
"Oh~ I like this one." Andrew said. "Can we keep him, Coach?"

Neil gets a head injury that changes his mental stability. He is put on antipsychotic that causes him to become numb. After the Foxes recruit Neil's teammate in Milport and he's at the right place at the right time, he signs as well.

Neil has spent the last 2 years numb and floating through life in a drugged haze, forced to run from his father with his mother since he was 8 years old. At least he was with his mother, now he's on his own in the suffocatingly small town that is Millport but of course it wasn't quite small enough.
