AU: Lu Ten never died at Ba Sing Se, and Fire Lord Iroh rules the nation with an iron fist. Zuko is merely the son of the second prince, overlooked by his more talented younger sister and can only dream of the day when he will be finally allowed to prove himself in battle. When Lu Ten returns, triumphant, with the Avatar and his Water Tribe companions in chains, Zuko is put in charge of their imprisonment. But he soon learns that things are not what they seem with both the child Avatar and within his own family. And soon, Zuko will have a decision to make. ~2.5 hrs text to speech, 1st story - Where the Tulips Grow. 2nd is a short from Mai's point of view. 4th is a short Katara's Version Part 1 of the 1st story.
Skip 3rd unless series is continued as it implies strongly that Zuko is killed and Azula is put on the throne. To You, My Best by Evangeline_Douglas, Katara/Zuko (Avatar), Marriage of Convenience.
In the balloon, Zuko hadn't let himself think about what would happen if the Avatar's group turned him away, but the cold reality sinks into his bones like the mountain air, and he trembles where he stands. There's nowhere to go and everywhere to go all at once, and he promised them, promised himself, promised Uncle his repentance for Ba Sing Se. He promised to make it up to Katara. The only question is how he's supposed to do that without teaching the Avatar firebending.
(Or: Winning a war is hard. Atonement is harder).

Of Rising and Redeeming by The_Chronic_Cryptid
A post-canon Azula redemption, where Azula unintentionally and begrudgingly starts an animal sanctuary but still doesn’t understand how a couple of turtleducks somehow ends up turning into a full-blown home for war orphans. However, it becomes well-known that anyone who messes with her charges (human or otherwise) will be burnt to a crisp.
The Gaang are delighted and amused by this turn of events.
