Work Text:
Kiba was not jealous of his ninken. He just wasn't. Anyone who said otherwise was a liar and he wouldn't countenance anyone lying about him or his dog.
The facts were this: there were several shinobi that had been very, very badly hurt trying to catch Sasuke, and only so many Hokages with amazing medical knowledge to go around, so once the injured were out of danger, they had to convalesce. There had only been one gravely injured ninken, and there was one veterinarian sister with medical knowledge and healing chakra.
So while Kiba was bandaged in a hospital bed with strict orders not to move around, Akamaru was healed and cute and wagging his tail on Kiba's bed at every visitor who stopped by.
Including the puppeteer who had saved his ass, Sabaku no Kankurou.
And Kankurou thought Akamaru was cute.
He had supposedly stopped by to make sure the Leaf genin he went to the trouble of saving was alright, but once he had seen Akamaru looking healthy and cute, cuteness aggression had taken over. Kankurou was squishing the dog's face and tickling him and sitting on the visitor's chair making much over Akamaru, who was laying on his back, tummy up, and clearly loving every second.
But Kiba wasn't jealous. It was normal for people to like cute things.
Even if he was a little awestruck by being saved by a cute older boy.
It was fine.
It was all just fine.
He wasn't jealous.
