Chapter Text
For the rest of their honeymoon was spent with Lucifer treasuring him, spoiling him, and making love to him any second of the day they got. By the time they were back in Pride,
Adam almost forgot the reality of the situation. He was going to have a baby with his darling. When they were home Adam couldn't help but start nesting. The manor was too big for him to clean, but being Queen he didn't have to. A team was hired and had the manor polished until he was satisfied.
Adam was happy, happier than he had been in what had to be years. Everything had come into place.
Then one day while in the comforts of their room Lucifer struck up a question for his queen. “Can we have a little talk darling?”
Adam was unsure for a moment, from the tone of Lucifer’s voice it didn’t sound promising. But it was still his husband and he trusted him so he nodded. “Of course.”
Lucifer smiled as he had himself and Adam sit on the edge of their large duck themed bed. The devil exhaled and began to speak, “I know you love your parents and your mother is a lovely woman, she'll likely want to be here when the baby comes. But.....”
Adam raised a brow as the king trailed off. “But?” Lucifer sighed. “But it's your father........ I don't like him.”
Adam felt like this was his opportunity to keep his father out. “No?” Lucifer shook his head. “No and it has nothing to do with you my dove, I just..... I've never liked him or enjoyed his presence.”
Adam felt relieved. “Me too.....” He at long last confessed, his voice filled with solace as he spoke. Lucifer’s own brows were raised high into his hair at what he was just told. “Really?”
The goetia nodded. “I’ve always felt that no matter what I did it would always be insignificant to my brothers.” Lucifer felt his own heart squeeze at the confession. “Oh dove…..”
Adam sighed but continued, “growing up, watching my siblings being given their duties to serve Hell while I remained on the sidelines waiting for my turn….”
“Why didn’t your father give you your own purpose?” Lucifer asked, confusion lacing his voice.
“He kept saying that I wasn’t ready…..now I know what that really means is that he didn’t think I was capable of ever receiving the responsibility…….or more likely he was saving my purpose for something bigger.”
“What was it?”
Adam bit his beak in contemplation, he wanted to tell his husband the truth, he deserved to know……but he couldn’t help but worry about what his reaction might be.
He didn’t want to hurt Lucifer nor for him to get angry and blame him. He didn’t want to be accused of manipulating the king and making a fool out of him. Because even though this relationship wasn’t out of mutual desire at first it was now.
Adam had always dreamed that he would find a love as precious as this and now here it was.
He didn’t want to lose it.
Lucifer’s voice called out to him, distracting him from his worries. “Adam? You know you can tell me anything right?”
Adam may not want to tell him, but knew that in his heart it was better than being a liar. “……Promise you won’t be angry with me?”
Lucifer smiled at him as he marked an X over his heart. “I swear upon my very soul that I won’t.”
Adam took a breath. “O-okay..... He gave me my purpose months ago before we met........ He said my purpose was to marry you......”
Lucifer did feel anger, but not at Adam. A Goetias purpose to Hell would never be to marry someone or have a child. It would always be a way to serve Hell with their magic. “So it wasn't a coincidence we met.”
“No...... He set it up.... I'm so sorry Luci, I love you so much.” His lip began to tremble. Lucifer caressed his cheek. “Shhh, it's not your fault, I love you too. Pamion has been trying to get into my inner circle for years. To think he would stoop so low as to use his own son.”
Adam sniffled. “I wanted to tell you...... But he was watching me the whole damn time and I was so scared.” He started to cry and Lucifer held him and rubbed his back. “It's okay dove..... You're safe now.”
Adam cried harder hearing that he was finally safe from his father. “What can we do?”
“Just because you're Queen, doesn't mean he gets to reap the benefits of your title. You out rank him now my darling, you can put your foot down and not let him anywhere near here.” Lucifer continued to hold him as he explained
Adam looked up with hope in his golden eyes. “T, Truly?” The devil smiled softly. “Yes, heck as Queen as long as I allow it you can strip him of all his power. To which I completely agree.”
The queen couldn’t help but smile at the notion. Deep within the confines of his heart he felt as though Paimon deserved to be brought to his knees. He was an arrogant jackass who truly believed that he should be king of all the seven rings. He often worried of what might happen should he ever try to take the king’s crown.
But as much as the idea of stripping him of all his power and throwing him to the streets to be fed to the wolves he knew that it wasn’t going to happen. “We can’t, not without probable cause.” Adam tried to explain to his fiance but Lucifer wouldn’t have it. “This is probable cause! He tricked me and forced you into something that you weren’t ready for!”
“I know, but the Goetia have always looked to him as their leader….without him….who knows? We might even fall apart.”
Lucifer made a face at that description. “There's a difference between people looking at him as a leader and as a dictator. If he's using fear and intimidation then it's not fair to anyone.” Adam couldn’t help but nod in agreement to that. “Very true.”
“And it didn't have to be forever, just however long it takes for him to understand.”
Adam laughed. “It would end up being forever..... But they would still need someone.
Lucifer hummed in thought for a moment before suggesting, “what about your mother? She's a smart woman.”
The queen took a second to consider his words. His mother Sera has been wanting to make changes.
“Think about it. You don't have to decide right this second.” The demon king placed a hand onto the goetia’s shoulder in support. Adam sighed wistfully from the act. “How did I become so lucky to be blessed with a husband like you?”
“No need to fuss over me dear. I'm simply doing what is right.” Lucifer simply put. “My father never enjoyed being kept waiting for an answer, he always demanded one the second it was possible.” Because for the arrogant bird, everything had to be delivered on record time in only a manner of seconds.
“Well, it's a good thing I'm not your father.”
Adam shuddered at the mental image. “Very good thing, we may on occasion marry a distant relative but we would never stand that sort of act.”
Lucifer snorted out a laugh. “Oh dove you truly know how to make any situation better.” Adam smiled as he snuggled into his husband's hold. They had no idea what the future might hold, but he knew that with Lucifer by his side, it wouldn't be as scary to face.
When word got out that the King and his new Queen were expecting an heir the Kingdom, especially Ars Goetia, were so happy.
Sera and Stolas had been the first ones told and they were so happy for Adam.
Adam had laid the egg and it was golden with red and black speckles. It rested in a beautiful bassinet that was filled with love and light.
Pamion was the last to know this information.
Adam was with the egg doing paperwork when it happened. Because of strong instincts he couldn't leave his precious little one for more than a few minutes.
However, just as he was finishing up with a page a knock from the door came followed by a small voice. “Y, Your majesty y, your father lord Paimon is h, h, h, here to see you…..”
“Tell him I’m busy at the moment.” Adam groaned out, not in the mood to deal with his father.
“Um well actually-
The door burst open revealing a wrathful goetia. “What is this that you have made an heir!?”
Adam tried not to groan as he placed his egg in the nest securely before he took in a deep breath to compose himself before facing his father. “Hello father, please come in.”
“Don't get snotty with me boy! Answer the question!” Paimon practically growled at him. Adam sighed, always with the dramatics with the owl. “Yes, Luci and I have made an egg together.”
“And why wasn't I informed!?”
Adam clicked his tongue. “Well, considering you're here and you know, I would say you were informed.”
Paimon growled once more as his eyes flashed red in warning. “Watch yourself boy.” Adam however simply crossed his arms at him. “Or what? You’ll spank me? I’m not a child anymore Father!”
“No, but you are certainly acting as one!”
Adam rolled his eyes. “Father, we had expected that someone from the family would tell you! I thought my mother would have told you!”
The geotia king scoffed. “Oh please, that woman barely speaks to me when we have to converse.”
Not surprising.
“Well, how did you find out?” Because he wondered who let the beans spill about the baby.
“I OVER HEARD it from Stolas of all people! You should have told me directly.”
“Well I apologize father but as you can see I’ve been busy.” He said gesturing down to the egg that contained the future grandson or granddaughter of the demon lord.”
Paimon huffed, crossing his arms. “At least you provided his majesty with an heir, hopefully this one will actually be a boy.” Adam foreword his eyes at the man he unfortunately had to call his father. “Um I’m sorry but what does that mean?”
Paimon’s eyes merely narrowed even more to him. “It means this kingdom needs an heir, a true heir to someday take over all of Hell.”
The true fucking nerve of this man must be made of steel. “Charlie IS a true heir.”
“No, she is a princess, nothing more. Just because she goes by a more manish name and wears masculine clothing doesn't make her an heir.”
Oh he was fucking asking for it now. Charlie was only a little still, but she expressed how she liked suits over dresses. “No. Charlie is a perfectly good name for a girl, girls can wear suits and still be girly and she is the true heir. She's older and I DARE you to say that to Lucifer's face.”
Pamion actually paused for a moment. “You..... The audacity!”
“Of you! You come into my home and insult my daughter.”
“STEP daughter. And for that matter I would say it to Lucifer's face.”
“Say what now?”
Pamion jumped, he didn't know the King was standing right behind him. Plastering on a polite smile he bowed and said to the king, “o, oh your majesty I, I was just-
“Upsetting my husband?” Lucifer stated harshly, he walked right past the arrogant royal as if he were nothing more than a shadow as he went to stand by Adam’s side. The hawk couldn’t be more grateful for his arrival.
Paimon gulped. “L, Lucifer, me and my son were just having a talk.” Lucifer raised a brow. “Really? What about dove?” He asked Adam, turning to him for an answer. “We were talking about the baby and Charlie.”
Pamion felt his heart drop into his stomach, Adam better not fucking out him for what he said. True heir or not Lucifer will peel the skin from his body like a fucking potato if he knows what he said about the princess.
“Oh really? Well I would love to be included in the conversation.”
Oh Paimon was a dead bird.
“Just a discussion on who will inherit the throne should you someday relinquish it.” Adam smiled which made Lucifer promptly reply, “well obviously the answer is obvious, it’s Charlie, she is the first born after all.”
Pamion started to sweat, this wasn't good.
Adam continued on, not caring for whatever happened to Paimon at this point. “Well, that's what I thought too love. But my father seems to think differently.”
Paimon glared at him, that fucking little-!
“Oh?”
Adam tapped his chin in faux thought. “What was it you said? She's just a princess? Not more.”
Pamion thought he was going to shit himself when Lucifer's eyes flashed dangerously red. “Excuse me?”
Pamion forced laughter to escape from him. “Haha, I-I-I think my son misunderstood.” But unfortunately Adam merely shook his head. “Mmm, nope. Don't think so.”
Lucifer growled as he stepped away from his bride and began to make his way to the false king, who tried backing away. “Let's get one thing straight, Pamion, that princess has more power at the age of six in her pinky finger than you do in your whole body. So I suggest you tread lightly.”
“I, I, I was only concerned for the crown sire-
“That reminds me and Adam has been speaking about you lately.”
“O,Oh?” Hopefully it wasn’t as bad as what was happening. Lucifer gave a short firm nod at him. “Yes, we have discussed heavily on your role in Hell and on Ars Goetia.”
“A, And? What of it?” For some reason Paimon already had a sinking feeling of where this was going.
Lucifer’s eyes turned dangerous. “Paimon, you have become too powerful for your own good. It’s made you arrogant and soft. I don’t think you could actually fulfill your purpose of protecting this kingdom should the need arise.”
Paimon gasped at his words. “No! I can your majesty! I may be a little rusty when it comes to fighting but I can still defend our great land!” He tried to defend himself, desperate to still keep on to his place among the kings.
However, he had lost it the moment he brought offense to the queen. “Hmm, no you can’t. Which is why as king I need to make sure that you become the leader you are meant to be.”
Lucifer calmly walked up to the owl and grabbed his arm tightly. Paimon let out a squawk of pain as he was overwhelmed suddenly by it. “Paimon of the Ars Goetia I hereby strip you of your powers, all of them until you learn by hand every single spell by memory alone.”
He finally let go once he felt all of the owl’s magic drain out. “Until you learn to become the leader the Goetia need you to be, your title shall be given to the next available, your wife Sera.”
Adam had never seen his father look so scared and weak, he actually looked like he might cry. “I-I-I..... I understand.....” He likely didn't, he just didn't want to make things worse.
Lucifer dismissed him and Pamion had a very long walk home. He turned to his husband with a grin. “There, now that he's gone.~” Adam cooed as Lucifer pulled him into a hug.
One week
One entire week had passed since the hatchling’s due date.
As the days passed together Adam and Lucifer grew more worried as they wondered what was wrong with their little one.
After the seventh day they had called in a professional in this manner.
Along two birds to support Adam.
Bel checked the egg and while she could hear a heartbeat that was good and strong there wasn’t much movement. “Hmm…..I’m not quite sure what’s wrong, maybe I need to grab a few extra tools.”
As she stepped aside to do so little Via stepped up. Before anyone could stop her she lightly tapped on the egg. Stolas quickly called out to her, “Via come here.”
“Is it empty?” The little girl asked curiously. Stolas sighed exhaustedly. “Via please.” However she paid no heed to her father as she turned to her uncle with a wide grin on her face. “If it’s empty can I have it?”
“Octavia!” Stolas lightly scolded at his owlet as he ushered her away from the egg. Meanwhile Adam almost had to escort himself out as he felt tears blur his vision. “I am truly sorry brother she doesn’t understand.”
Adam let out a shaky sigh. “No, no it’s fine it’s just……is there something wrong with my baby?”
“You heard the heartbeat, the baby is alive and well. Not everyone hatches on the day they're meant to.”
“I know...... I'm just so worried that the longer they are in there..... That something could be wrong.” Stolas rubbed his back. "Being in the egg is the safest place for the baby.”
Adam sniffled. “Y-yeah?” Stolas smiled softly. “Of course. As long as no one has dropped it the baby will be fine.
Adam smiled at him gently, thankful for a brother who could be there for his aide. That’s when they heard it.
Crack
For a moment Adam froze along with Stolas.
Could it be?
The sound of more cracking made everyone turn towards the pillow where the egg lay upon. They watched in pure disbelief and shock as it rolled off of it. Luckily it was on a pillow so no damage was caused.
Still Adam rushed forward alongside his husband as they bore witness to the birth of their child. A piece of the shell fell open, revealing a large golden eye. The parents' breath was taken away as the rest of the shell pieces chipped away leaving nothing but a newborn hatchling chirping away in distress.
“Oh Luci look! It’s a boy!”
Lucifer smiled tearfully as he nodded. “He is indeed.” He conjured up blankets for his little prince, scooping him up and covering his naked body with warmth.
Soon the tears stopped as he was placed in his mother’s arms. Staring up at him with curiosity. To which the older bird smiled lovingly at him. “Oh hello my little one, my sweet prince…..my baby boy.”
From where he was Lucifer chuckled. “Charlie’s going to be disappointed that she isn’t getting a sister.”
“She’ll forget about that once she sees this adorable sweet thing.” Adam cooed.
“And what should we name our boy dove?”
Adam hummed in thought for a moment. “Hmm…..how about…..Abel?” Lucifer smiled. “That sounds perfect my dove.”
And true to the Queen's words, Princess Charlie didn't even mind that Abel was a boy since he was, in her words, "pretty like a girl" but she loved him all the same.
Everyone was overjoyed with the news of a prince being born.
Even if Abel was far from being their last.
Turns out Adam got exactly what he wanted after all, a loving husband and a family to call his own.
As for Pamion? He learned his lesson to never cross the King and Queen.
Eventually.
