Falling into instincts

Summary:

Peter Parker is nineteen and still hasn’t presented. It’s uncommon, but not unheard of—at least that’s what everyone tells him. Still, something about him has always felt off to alphas and omegas alike, like his body is waiting for something it hasn’t quite become yet. Peter tries not to care. He really does. But between Flash’s relentless comments and the constant pressure of a world that sorts everyone into neat, unequal categories, it gets harder to ignore.

Omegas are the most restricted of all presentations. Alphas are feared, envied, and too often excused for their behavior. Betas are considered “normal,” safe.

He’s exhausted in ways he can’t explain. Alphas make him sick. His body feels wrong in ways he doesn’t understand yet—and the closer he gets to certain people, the worse it becomes. Especially around Tony Stark. Especially around Oscar, Aunt May’s unsettling new partner who seems a little too interested in Peter’s “condition.”

Then come the headaches. The heat. The collapse. And when Peter finally wakes up in the Stark medbay, everything he’s been avoiding becomes impossible to deny: He’s presenting. And nothing about it is going to be simple.

Chapter Text

Peter Parker had turned nineteen (19), just early that year and he was still unpresented, which wasnt exactly rare but it also wasn't common. Most people just assumed maybe he had presented, but was a beta and hadn't noticed the difference but he smelled different, off to any alphas and omegas and it was clear that likely wasn't true.

It wasn't something he was exactly embarrassed, or insecure about but he still wasn't proud of the fact, and while most people didn't seem to judge or care he still got a weird look from time to time.

Flash was the only one who seemed to really care about it, not that peter cared but it was still annoying. He wanted to present if only to shut flash up. It didn't really matter what you were, each person had different opinions on each presentation.

Some people were beta supremacist, since it was the most common presentation, most people were afraid or jealous of alphas since they had enhanced senses, they were stronger, and faster then other, 'normal' people.

Omegas, especially male omegas didn't have it the best out of all the presentations. They were either heavily desired, or heavily hated depending the person. Most people saw them as useless, they were weak, and especially sensitive the only thing that seemed good about them was the fact male or female they were able to have babies, and they were seen as maternal, and caring. They had a enhanced sense of smell however, even better then alphas.

Omegas had little to no rights however, even in this time and day, there was little to no laws put in place to protect them from discrimination or abuse. Most omegas weren't allowed in places without a alpha(either a parent, or their 'bonded' along with them). It was unfair, and just downright stupid in peters eyes, and he was grateful he wasn't a omega.

Aunt may was unlucky enough to present as a omega, which was rare in of itself, but even more rare considering both her parents were betas. It was pure unluck, peter remembered growing up and going out with aunt may.

People, alphas especially would sneer at her, and give her weird looks. She would tell him stories of her as a young girl, when creepy alpha men, and the occasional alpha women would come up to her father and ask for her hand in marriage, saying how he couldn't protect her forever, without a alpha she wouldnt be able to buy her own home, or do most things.

A couple years after she presented she would meet uncle Ben, and they'd end up bonded, and then married. He was one of the few good alphas she would meet, but tragically he would die. Two years after his death aunt may would meet Oscar.

Peter has only met Oscar a handful amount of times, and he was kind of odd, and creepy but aunt may was happy and he wasn't around enough for it to really matter, so peter never commented on it.

Omegas needed to be acquainted with a alpha to do most things, either familial or a bonded alpha, aunt may was lucky to find not one but two good alphas. A Lot of alphas were cruel, but it was blamed on the fact they were alphas and couldn't control themselves.

Peter was always wary of alphas, even though there was a chance he, himself could present as a alpha one day. Despite knowing a lot of 'good' alphas he was afraid to present as one, and hoped he'd be a simple beta.

That was the easiest, and best option. Omegas were mistreated, and being a alpha just didn't feel right, which was odd considering his father and mother both were alphas. It was rare, but he'd researched and found out sometimes when two alphas mated it canceled itself out and they'd had a beta, or occasionally a omega. He hoped he was one of the rare cases of two alphas having an beta.

It was unlikely he'd be a omega, even if he had a omega in his family line. About 60% of people were betas, 30% were alphas, and only 10% was omegas, even less were male omegas which only took up 3% of the omega population.

Male omegas had a uterus, but they weren't intersex, so getting pregnant, and having babies were extremely dangerous. It was dangerous just in general for omega pregnancies, two weeks after the initial heat that would lead to pregnancy for omegas had a high chance of no conception, even the littlest amount of stress could cause a omega to miscarry, or never get pregnant in general. Afterwards it was rare for omegas to lose the babies, under only extreme cases such as blood loss, or sickness in which the omegas body would rid anything that could possibly keep them from healing, their body took their baby as a parasite and got rid of it.

Recently he'd been catching some kind of cold, or something. it was odd. The first sign something was wrong with him was small. It was just… exhaustion. Peter had always been energetic—too energetic, according to Tony—but lately, it felt like someone had pulled the batteries out of him. His limbs were heavy, his thoughts slower, and there was this strange, unfamiliar warmth simmering under his skin that he couldn’t explain.

He tried to ignore it, but the tiredness just intensified with time. He was constantly on the verge of passing out, and whenever he was around alphas it felt like his head was going to explode and he felt sick to his stomach.

Something was wrong he just didn't know what, and it didn't help that tony was a alpha who he was around often, and a couple alphas were in his school. Not to mention Oscar was around the house more often, even when aunt may was gone.

He kept trying to bond with peter, and ask him odd questions about his presentation, it felt like he didn't believe peter hadn't presented. In a way he was also trying to force a parental role onto himself, he kept telling may about things he did(which really wasn't even that bad! Most things Oscar tattled about may usually didn't care about, but with Oscars insistence peter found himself being scolded, and grounded more often).

If Oscar thought that was helping him get closer to Peter he was dead wrong, and it wasn't long for peter to start avoiding him, partly due to his annoying behavior and partly due to the intense sickness and migraines being around Oscar caused.

He kept getting stomach cramps, and he knew he shouldn't but he found himself staying home from his college classes, curled up in bed. Oscar kept implying odd things which peter choose to ignore. He kept trying to offer peter aunt May's heat teas, that were made for omegas to soothe them during or before heats.

Peter brushed it off as teasing, but research told him that his symptoms were similar to what happened before presenting as ones second gender. He forced his aching body to the bathroom, turning on the shower and locking the door behind him as he lost himself in his thoughts. What was he going to do if it was true, if he was truly presenting after all this time.

The thought made him anxious, and he decided he'd make a appointment for the following week, but before he could even make it through the day he collapsed inside of a stark elevator, and was found by Harley, who rushed him into the medbay, where when he woke up his fear was confirmed; he was finally presenting. And even worse; he was likely to present as a omega if the tests that Dr. banner had done were correct.
