Chapter 1: First Day

Chapter Text

“Hemi! Get your ass out the door already! You’ll be late!” I hear dad yell from the kitchen. I roll out of bed and throw on my new uniform. I was quite surprised when I managed to make it into UA, the most prestigious school in Japan. Throwing my hair up into a low ponytail and making sure my bangs covered my eyes, I made my way into the kitchen, grabbing a piece of toast off his plate. “Good morning to you too, hoodlum.” He says with a grin, the place where his nose should be crinkling in an odd way. “Mornin’ pops.” I state, turning for the door and slipping my shoes on, grabbing my backpack and opening the door. “Have a great first day!” Pops shouts from the table, “Thanks, Have a nice day.” I shout back, closing the door and starting my way to school.

I managed to make it in roughly 20 minutes, the building huge and looming. I started to get a bit nervous as I made my way through the large school. When I find my classroom, the large door is open and I can hear some people talking from inside. As I walk into the classroom I find myself behind a short brunette who’s talking to a boy with green hair and freckles, a put together boy just about an inch taller than me with blue hair and glasses standing right behind the green haired boy making odd gestures with his hands. Someone I actually recognized from Somei, but couldn’t place a name to the face.

“If you’re here to make friends then you should leave now.” A gruff voice sounds from behind me, as I turn and look at the yellow looking caterpillar on the ground. Hair pooling out of it on the floor. “It took you 8 seconds to quiet down.” He starts as he stands and steps out of the sleeping bag. “That isn’t becoming of heroes.” He states. “I am your homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shota.” He introduced himself before taking a gym uniform out of the sleeping bag and holding it up, “Go change into your gym uniform and meet me out at the training grounds.”

We all do as he says and are now all standing outside at one of the many training grounds on campus.

— skipping past all the boring stuff I’m too tired to remember —

As I stood there looking at the screen, my name popped up 7th. The green haired kid, who I figured out was Midoriya, was placed last and looked like he’d just died inside. “I’m not actually going to fail anybody,” Mr. Aizawa started, “It was a logical ruse to convince you all to pull out your best.” He finished with the creepiest grin I think I've ever seen, and with that, Midoriya sank to the floor. “Well that was obvious. I don't see how anyone could have taken that seriously.” A tall raven haired girl says, the glasses guy, Iida Tenya, as I had finally remembered, agreed.

Iida was in a different class than I was at Somei, but everyone knew him. The uptight hero family asshole who was so overbearing on his classmates, some of them moved to my class. To say I already didn’t like him would be an understatement. If he starts acting anything like how he did there, I might just have to knock him down a few pegs. That being said, he kept staring at me during the moments when we were both on the sidelines.

“Excuse me, but you look familiar.” A voice pulls me from my thoughts. I look over to see none other than the nepo baby himself. “We went to Somei together.” I stated bluntly, wanting to cut this conversation as short as possible. “Ah! We did, didn’t we. Chizome, if I’m not mistaken, right?” He asks, waving his hand in that obnoxious gesture again. If he wasn’t so uptight and bitchy, it’d probably be an endearing quality. “Yeah.” I answered, hoping my brashness would shoo him away. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you pull your hair out of your face before.” He continues, obviously social cues aren’t his strong suit. “Yeah, well, we never really talked before this very moment, four eyes. It’s a bit difficult to do any training with hair in my face.” I sigh, losing hope that he’d leave me alone any time soon.

“Ah, yes, that does make logical se-” He starts before being interrupted by Mr. Aizawa, “Your academics will be starting in 10 minutes, get changed and to your classroom.” He states, dismissing us. I took the opportunity and said a quick bye before taking my leave.

As the day came to an end I made my way to the entrance, slipping my outside shoes on and walking through the courtyard. I was very much minding my own business when someone called me from behind. “Hey! You! You’re Chizome right!” Uraraka’s bubbly voice called after me, I winced, she and Midoriya had formed a bit of a trio with Iida, and he was the last person I wanted to talk to right now. And yet, I looked over my shoulder. “Hey. And yeah, Chizome.” I said, slowing my roll and falling into step with the trio.

“We all are heading toward the train station, how about you?” Midoriya asks hesitantly, “Yeah, I'm heading that way too.” I replied, “That’s great!” Iida exclaims, “It’s always a good idea to make friends at a new school!” He states, flailing his hands around. “Never said y’all were friends. I just figured I’d be courteous and not completely ignore you.” I state bluntly, Midoriya seems to deflate a little and Uraraka giggles nervously. “Oh, I do believe I was under the impression you were a sociable person, my apologies.” He says, holding his hand over his chest.

“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” I send him a glare. “Oh! I just meant, well, you had no trouble making friends at Somei, I figured you’d be interested in being friends since we are both from the same secondary school.” He defends. “Yeah, is that so?” I start, “If we’re going by reputations, you are probably the last person I'd like to associate myself with.” I finish, speeding up past the trio, leaving them behind. From behind me I hear Midoriya say “That was a bit harsh…” And maybe it was, but the whole idea of even being around Iida makes me feel nauseous, he just makes me feel so, I don’t know, irritated? Unreasonably defensive? Odd?

Too tired to think about it further, I sit at the station to wait for the train. I pull out my phone to pass the time, pulling up Sudoku and playing a couple of rounds before the train pulls up. I get on just after the trio and walk to the other side of the cart, making sure I can be as far from that blue headed asshole as I can. I tried playing a couple more rounds of sudoku, but this time around it seems I can’t. This bastard even has the audacity to plague my thoughts.

He’s so irritating and for what?

The train soon arrived at my station and I moved to get off, noticing Iida staring at me again. He just won’t stop with that, will he? Once off the train I make my way toward a nearby 7/11.

I walked into the nicely air conditioned convenience store, taking my time to look through it, as this one was different from the one I frequented for the last three years. The cashier was a small older man with salt and pepper hair. As I walked through the isles, I found what I was looking for, ramen. I picked up some buldak spicy ramen, a favorite of both me and my father, and made my way to the refrigerated section, picking up a melon drink for myself and a coffee for my dad.

I walk up to the cashier, setting the items on the counter and taking out my wallet. “UA, huh?” He says politely, scanning the items. “Mhm. Today was my first day.” I sigh, giving the man a polite smile. “You like it?” He asks again, setting the things in a bag. “Yeah, I do. I can tell it’s gonna be tough, but I’ll do anything to achieve my dream.” I state, “That’s nice! Your total is 1200 ¥.” He says cheerily. I hand him the money and take the bag with a small bow. “Good luck to being a hero kid!” He says as I walk out of the store, I give a smile and a thumbs up back before turning away and heading home.

It doesn’t take long to get home. I open the door and kick off my shoes, walking through the living room and into the kitchen and setting the bag on the counter. I head off to my room, dropping off my bag and quickly changing into a more comfortable set of clothes. One can never go wrong with sweats and a tank top.

I make my way back into the kitchen, seeing dad already heating up his ramen and drinking the coffee. “Welcome home kiddo. How was it?” He says, patting me on the head. “It was alright. I’m just glad I even have this opportunity.” I answer, grabbing my own food and a bowl to prepare it in. He hums, going back to doing whatever he was doing on his phone. His ramen finishes and I put mine in, waiting for it to be done I check my phone as well.

Metube. Metube. Metube. Chatsnap. Metube. Weather. Metube. Local news. Flixnet.

I start swiping them away before reaching the local news notification, the headline seems kind of intriguing. ‘Breaking news! Hero Killer in downtown Tokyo!?’ That’s surprising. And a fucking killjoy. Seriously, what is this dudes deal? As my food gets done I take a seat on the couch next to dad, grabbing the remote and turning on the news. I wanna see If this is something I’m going to have to worry about.

“What’s up, kiddo?” He asks. “Some news article on my phone says that Hero Killer guy is in town. Wanna know if he’s here for a while or just passin’ by.” I state, slurping up some noodles.

‘This case is still under investigation, but every sign points to the Hero Killer. We’re not sure if he's just trying to throw us off or getting cocky, but this will be the first daylight kill under this masked bastard's belt.’ the hero they’re interviewing is very visibly mad. ‘No matter who the hell this guy, or girl, y'know you can’t judge nowadays, is. We’re gonna find him and send him to justice.’ he continues. It then swaps over to a media woman. ‘Despite the crime happening in broad daylight, no one has been able to identify the killer. The loss of Pro Hero, Junky, will be immense. Her status among the heroes of Tokyo has been near the top for ages. We’ll continue documentation of this case as more information is revealed.’ The channel finally cuts and moves onto a weather report.

“Never a big fan of hers.” Dad says nonchalantly. “Same here. But did she really deserve death?” I replied glumly, staring at my food. While it was true, I never really liked her, all those money laundering schemes getting shoved under the rug and all that, she helped plenty of people I knew, and even myself a couple of times. Her quirk was also quite handy, being able to turn random objects into other objects, that’s a hell of a power. “Well, what’s done is done I guess.” He sighs, taking his trash to the kitchen. “I’m gonna head to bed soon kid, gotta be at work extra early.” He smiles at me, ruffling my hair and walking off to his room. “G’night dad!” I shout, “Night, kiddo!” He shouts back, closing his door.

So I’ll have the house to myself tomorrow.

I switch the channel over to a cartoon, watching that while I finish my food. I take my trash into the kitchen, washing up my dishes and heading to my room. As I laid in bed, I could tell it would be one of those nights. I continued to stare at the ceiling until I was 100% sure dad would be asleep. Once certain, I got up, threw on a hoodie, grabbed my shoes, and snuck out the window. It didn’t matter that we lived on the 12th floor of our apartment building. My quirk had that handled.
