Earworms in the Grass (Ceiling)

Summary:

NOTE: This is a nonfictional, supplemental piece. No fanfic here.

A series of playlists, containing songs that the "Grass Ceilings" versions of the cast listen to.

Work Text:

As noted above, this is not really a work of fanfiction. Rather, it's a fun little source to plug in to some of the stuff that I imagine the "Grass Ceilings" gang listening to. Although the main story of the series is, as of this publishing, still set in 2005, some of the songs here were released after then. Sorry not sorry if that kind of thing bothers you. Just think of this as looking at the current-day versions of the characters, I dunno. It's fine, really.

Some notes:

- There's one song that appears more than once, on two different playlists. There's probably a reason for that. ;)

- The selection of music videos versus audio-only videos was, mostly, also intentional. Only in one or two instances was I limited by what YouTube had to offer. Asuka and Ritsuko are MTV kids/music video enjoyers. They'd watch MVs whenever possible, I think. Rei and Shinji, not so much.

- I'm aware that this is an egregious case of telling, rather than showing, but it is hard to explore this aspect of characterization in a way that feels natural. Every time I reference a musician or a song by name in writing it feels incredibly forced. This is a somewhat-less cringey way to go about it.

- As a heads up, there are a couple of Evangelion AMVs here. Only two of them, though, and both of them were selected over "real" videos because I like what they convey, and what they mean for the characters. It's not just a case of "lol sick edit," I promise.

- I considered doing these for more of the characters, but I dunno. Everyone else feels either not significant enough to warrant the effort, or like their music taste is generic enough that they're also not worth the time. Average-high-schooler Hikari, for example, probably listens to whatever is on the radio. It's alright to skip out on making a Greatest Hits of 2005 playlist just for the sake of this, I think.

And that's about it. Thanks for taking the time to indulge in this silliness. Who knows, you might find a song or two to add to your own rotation. Enjoy! :)
