Work Text:
The break was still in effect before HUNTR/X could prepare to record their next single, and other than one meet-and-greet with fans later in the week, their schedule was clear. Mira was taking advantage of the downtime to catch up on her shows, while Rumi, sprawled on the couch beside her, was leafing idly through one of Zoey's half-filled lyric notebooks. It was a peaceful time, and they cherished it, knowing that a single would be followed by an album, and then another world tour. But, for the moment, things were quiet.
Until a cyclone in cherry red and silver whirled through the living room, following by a hail of inseparable words: "HeyMiraHeyRumidoyouwannaseethiscoolthingIfoundheywhatifweallchangedoureyelinerbrandtogetherwouldn'tthatbeGREAT?!"
While Rumi blinked helplessly, Mira straightened up from her slouch and met the inclement weather with characteristic dignity. "Okay," she said sternly. "Now, let's have that again. Slowly, this time."
Zoey giggled self-consciously and flopped into an empty armchair. "I found something super-cool! You wanna see?"
"Is it another meme about the so-called breakup?" asked Rumi, rolling over on her back and letting the notebook slide to the floor.
"Psssh, no," said Zoey, waving her hand. "Everybody's over the breakup meme. Now they all think you two were secretly siblings."
Mira snorted and Rumi made an offended noise.
"It's not that, though," added Zoey hastily, shoving her phone at the other two. "Here, look."
Mira picked up the phone while Rumi looked over her shoulder. "A new makeup brand?" she asked incredulously. "What's wrong with the one we already use?"
"This one's vegan! Totally cruelty-free!" said Zoey cheerfully.
"So are all the brands we already use," retorted Mira. "We checked together, remember?"
"Yeah," said Rumi, sitting up. "Why do you insist on this one, specifically? What makes it so special?"
Zoey hemmed and hawed. "They're donating park of their proceeds to a sea turtle preserve in Sri Lanka."
"Ohhh," said the other two in unison.
"We could really raise awareness!" said Zoey. "Rumi, you're always talking about how we could be doing more. They don't have a full range of color swatches yet, but they could probably expand, if they got enough customers, right? Right?"
Rumi and Mira exchanged a glance. Mira handed Zoey's phone to Rumi, who scrolled the website with her thumb, furrowing her brow at the colorful palettes and photogenic reptiles that crowded it.
"It's a good cause," she said slowly, "and I know it's important to you."
Zoey was practically vibrating with excitement in her seat.
"I don't want to jump into anything," said Rumi, even more slowly.
"We have a whole makeup team!" Mira pointed out. "We should at least let them research this new company before we drop something new on them, out of the blue."
"But you're not, like, against it, right?" asked Zoey anxiously.
"No!" said Rumi, at the same time that Mira said, "Of course, not."
"We love that you want to be more environmentally conscious," said Rumi.
"We just want to make sure we do our homework," agreed Mira.
Zoey leapt up from her seat and started jumping up and down in excitement. "Thank you! Thank you! Thankyouthankyouthankyoutha--"
Mira glanced sidelong at Rumi and said, "We'd better get up and let her do a group hug, before she goes supersonic."
