Work Text:

Yoongi’s hands grip the edge of the seat as if his life depended on it. He rubs them against the edge. He’s sweating.

He looks down at his lap—or at what lays on his lap.

A small bouquet of flowers—pinks and reds and yellows—and a box of chocolates. There’s also a card.

“This is stupid,” Yoongi says. “This is a bad idea.”

There’s a sigh that comes from the driver’s seat, then the car comes to a stop as his mom parks into a spot.

“Yoongi-yah, don’t be silly,” she says, turning to look at him. “It’s not stupid at all. It's sweet.

“That’s even worse,” he absolutely does not whine. His face feels warm. “I feel like I’m gonna throw up.”

His mother giggles. “Don’t be dramatic,” she tells him, putting a comforting hand on his shoulder. “It’s gonna be fine.”

“What if it’s not fine?” he murmurs through a pout. “What if he throws them at my face?”

She snorts. “This is Jiminie we’re talking about,” she tells him. “There’s no way he’d do something like that.”

“You don’t know that.”

“Of course I do,” she says. “I’ve seen you both interact; I’ve seen the way he looks at you like a lovesick puppy.”

Yoongi groans, ignoring the warmth rushing to his face and down his neck. That’s not helping at all; it’s actually making him even more nervous.

“Come on,” she slaps him lightly on the shoulders. “Get off here already. I didn’t raise a coward.”

Yoongi rolls his eyes. “Whatever,” he murmurs as he opens the door before grabbing the things with trembling hands. “See you later.”

“Love you!” is all he hears from his mother before slamming the door shut.

Whatever, he thinks to himself as he walks up the steps to the school’s entrance, shoulders square and head up because no matter how embarrassing this may be, he is not going to act like that in front of everyone.

So what if he’s holding flowers and chocolates and a card? It’s normal. It’s Valentine’s day. Everyone else is doing the same.

He walks over to his locker, and his friends are already there.

“Well, would you look at that,” Namjoon says as soon as he sees him. Beside him, Hoseok and Seokjin coo.

“Oh, that’s so sweet, Yoongi-yah.”

He rolls his eyes at them, maneuvers himself to open the locker. “Shut up.”

Hoseok tasks, “You better fix that scowl, hyung. Jiminie is walking towards here.”

Yoongi’s eyes widen in panic, he turns around just to see his friends giggling and walking away. “W-wait—”

He doesn’t have time to panic because just a second later Jimin is standing right in front of him.

Jimin, with his sweet smile and recently dyed orange hair—which would look ridiculous on anyone else, but on Jimin it looks perfect. His chubby cheeks are naturally pink, his eyes turn into crescent moons when he smiles at him. He’s so cute Yoongi might actually die.

“Hyung!” Jimin greets him cheerfully with a big smile.

“Jiminie,” Yoongi says, smiling awkwardly at him because he’s so fucking nervous.

The younger boy giggles, probably finding Yoongi’s awkwardness funny. But then his eyes drop to Yoongi’s arms and his smile fades slowly.

“Oh,” he says. He pulls the sleeves of his sweater over his fingers. “Are you… Are those for someone?”

Yoongi, too, looks down at the items he’s holding. “Ah, these?” He clears his throat. “I—I brought them for someone…”

Jimin nods slowly. He looks down at the floor. “I didn’t know you liked someone.”

He looks… disappointed? Sad? Oh, no. Does he think Yoongi has brought flowers and chocolates and a card for someone that isn’t him? No, no, Yoongi can’t have that.

“You,” he says, dumbly, because of course he does.

The boy looks up, frowning in confusion. “Me?”

Yoongi gulps, laughs awkwardly. “For you, I mean,” he says. “They’re for you.”

Somehow, Jimin’s cheeks turn pinker. “Oh,” he murmurs softly. “Really?”

The older boy nods,  then takes a deep breath, holding the flowers and chocolates and card towards Jimin. “Do you… wanna be my Valentine?”

Jimin tries to bite a smile, but he’s unable to do so because it spreads too wide on his face. He giggles, and the sound is so sweet Yoongi’s heart skips a beat.

“Yes, hyung. I’d love to be your Valentine,” he says, grabbing everything with care. He brings the flowers up to his face and inhales their scent deeply, closing his eyes. He looks happy.

“You like them?” Yoongi asks, nervously, scratching the back of his neck.

Jimin nods enthusiastically. “I love them; they’re perfect, hyung.” Then, he leans closer to Yoongi, hugging him as best as he can while holding everything.

Yoongi freezes for a second, but is quick to wrap his arms around Jimin’s waist, holding him closer.

“Thank you, hyung,” the younger murmurs against his neck.

Yoongi can’t help the small kiss he leaves against his temple before they break apart. They’re supposed to get to class soon.

“See you later?” Yoongi says, “There’s this movie in the theater… the one you mentioned the other day…”

Jimin smiles. “I’d love to watch it with you, hyung,” he says, before turning to start walking to his classroom.

“I-I’ll text you!” Yoongi stutters as he watches the boy walk away. Jimin looks over his shoulder and smiles again.

God, Yoongi is so in love with him.
