Chapter Text
“Long ago in our mountains the Great Alpha lived…” Wyatt started his story around the campfire. Small pups running up and listening, clearly engrossed in the story.
“She ruled fiercely but kindly and fair.” he continued while the others in his pack watch. When Willa, his sister, starts mocking him.
“The Great Alpha this, and the Great Alpha that. Honestly, Wyatt do you ever stop? She’s just a myth” Willa says sharply with her tone cutting through the air.
“She’s real! And, I will never stop talking about her stories.” he sounds desperate to make her believe too.
“Maybe she is real but if she was she should’ve helped us a long time ago!” Willa’s tone scares everyone, including her twin brother. The tension around the campfire gets as thick as the stones they’re sitting on. Everyone looks uncomfortable in the silence. Wyatt stands and breaks the tension as everyone waits to see what he’ll do. He walks off silently and with his head down. The pups look sad that the story is over but they don’t mention their feelings.
Back at his cave Wyatt got ready for bed.
“She is real” he said to himself as if he was trying to also convince himself. He sighed to whoever could hear and went to sleep. Or at least tried to due to his restlessness. He tossed and turned in bed the whole night. The next morning Willa sent him on a patrol with the disguise as a construction worker. He didn’t know what would happen but knew Willa was planning something.
