It’s always nice to see you!

Summary:

While Halloween is Connie’s favourite time of year, the questions about her old name always bother her. She’s lucky enough to have a pretty toon there to tell her she made the right choice in her chosen nickname.

Work Text:

Connie loves Halloween…for the most part. The spooky outfits, the atmosphere, the food, even getting to see her brother! Though, she’d never admit she misses him a little when he’s not around. He’d never let her live that down.

She misses all of her Halloween friends after the spooky season ends. As much as she teases Flutter for her sulking after Easter ends, she’d be lying if she said she never did the same. Watching all of her friends just hide away once their usefulness was “gone” was a sad sight, even for the usually unserious Connie.

All this to say, she does truly adore her friends. But, there was one aspect that really, REALLY pissed her off…

“Hiya, Boolynski! We missed you!”

“Boolynski, how have you been?”

“Why don’t you like the name Boolynski anymore? I really like it!”

“Boolynski! Boolynski!”

Connie groaned, flopping onto her pillow. That stupid name always found a way to haunt her…and it was ruining her favourite time of year! All she wanted to do was sulk in her bed, hiding away from a title she was trying to run from. A title that always caught up to her.

She rolled onto her back. Why was she so pressed about this? She’s usually chill about…well, anything! But a stupid word is causing her downfall. She dramatically flopped onto the floor, just in time for a visitor to see her moping around.

“Connie! I’m here to help clean up!” Tisha, Gardenview’s self-christened janitor walked in, cheery as ever. She paused to look down at the miserable sight on the floor, gazing back up at her. The cleaner sighed, crouching next to her. “Oh, dear. What as you in such a state?”

The sight of Tisha made Connie smile, just a bit. If there was one toon in this place that could always brighten her day, it was the beautiful cleaning lady that stopped by to help tidy up her room. She never mentioned it, but she always noticed how Tisha came to her room far more often than anyone else’s, despite it being one of the most clean. She always stayed for longer, finding any excuse to make conversation. And secretly, Connie LOVED it. Tisha was possibly one of the most gorgeous toons she’d ever seen. The dress that only just reached past her knees, and that highlighted her nice curves…the smile that could instantly make Connie fluster, no matter the timing. And lips that Connie dreamed of kissing.

“Gardenview to Connie! Did you hit your head…?” Tisha nervously chuckled, extending a hand for Connie to grab. She gladly did, anything to hold hands with her.

“Naaah. Just…ugh, Halloween is supposed to be the best time of the year for me!” Connie started to ramble as she was pulled off the floor. “I love my Halloween friends, I really do, but all October it’s just ‘Boolynski! Boolynski!’ I hate it!” Connie, again, flopped onto her bed, shoving her pillow onto her face.

Tisha lowered herself onto the bed, next to Connie.

“I’m sorry to hear that, it must be really frustrating.”

“It is! I thought they’d be the MOST understanding considering they’re super close to me, but…no.” Connie continued. “They act like using my nickname is just a joke! It’s like they don’t even care about how I feel about it!”

“I’m sure they do care, but I can see how that would get annoying…” Tisha frowned slightly, resting her hand on Connie’s. Connie swore she was going to have a heart attack…despite not having a heartbeat.

“Yeah…but it’s whatever.”

“It’s NOT whatever, Connie.”

“It is, it’s fine. It’s a stupid thing to be upset over anyway…”

The two sat in silence for a moment. It was awkward, but comfortable. Tisha always made Connie feel comfortable.

“For what it’s worth,” Tisha spoke up again. “I think Connie is a very pretty name. It suits you.”

Connie shot up at that, and she swore she was going to explode. All her life, she was told “Boolynski is such a cool name!” or “Why don’t you like it? It fits you!” But not once had anyone ever told her that CONNIE was a good name for her. She attempted to thank Tisha, but was a complete flustered mess.

“Haaahahahaum thank you thanks thankyouTisha…” She mumbled, face now a dark blue, fidgeting with her duvet. Tisha laughed, ruffling Connie’s hair, causing her to blush more.

“No need to get all shy, that’s not like you!”

“‘m not shy. Why would I be shy.” Connie was still mumbling, now covering her face with her hands. This got another chuckle out of Tisha, who stood from the bed.

“Of course, you’re never shy…” She muttered, before heading towards the door. “Listen, I have other rooms to clean, but…I’d really like to spend time with you later. Can you join me on a run?”

Connie almost flew up with joy. “Yes! Uh- yeah. Yeah I should be free for that…”

“Great! I’ll see you then!” Tisha grinned, picking up her supplies and exiting the empty room.

Connie was left alone with her thoughts again. Tisha had left her a blushing, flustered mess. She didn’t hate it though. She hoped she’d have more moments like this with the toon.

For the first time today, she had something nicer to think about.
