Chapter Text
Katsuki grumbled as he began to come aware of the warm sun hitting his eye and rolled in his nest with a sigh. He wondered how long it had been since the sun had risen over the horizon and sat up, the fluffy blanket covering him slipping from his shoulders and landing on his lap.
Looking around his room as he did every morning, Katsuki first saw the small bits of dry herbs which were laid unceremoniously around his nest - a bit of lavender dry rosemary and chamomile too. The shoji screen which he uses to hide his nest during the day is pressed up against the wall beside his dressing table. A ceramic pitcher and bowl was there for him to wash his face and there were a few hair ribbons and ties on the side of it - his eyes looking at the intricate wooden comb there briefly before looking at his closet, where already hanging there to be worn for the day was his dark gold tunic dress and apron.
‘I better get up before the hag does,’ Katsuki thought, crawling out of his nest soundlessly as he reached for the pitcher of water, pouring it into the bowl at a reasonable amount before he cupped his hands together and dunked them in, bringing them back up to splash his face.
The coldness had him shiver in his nightgown but the coolness helped to wake him further.
Wiping his hand on the linen cloth next to it, Katsuki ventured to his closet where from the inside of the door was installed a mirror.
He slipped out of his nightgown, bare to the glass in only grey loin cloths which covered his private but still showing the curve of his behind. Katsuki’s breasts wasn’t small despite being a male omega, but had a cleavage worthy of his stature and clear to all those in the village that saw him.
Katsuki always wore tailored chest covering - made specifically by his dam - which were easy to wear and secured at the back with two buttons, ensuring a snug and comfy fit.
Slipping on an underskirt, Katsuki changed into his dress chosen for the day and then changed his target to something else.
His hair.
Much like his sire, Katsuki’s hair was somewhat naturally born to be all over the place if not groomed properly. His Dam had shown him ways to style it since although he looked like his sire, his hair was still kinda like his and his father knew how to help.
He went to his dressing table and took out three things from his drawers. First it was Camellia oil, then herbal pomade (beeswax) and another balm for his face.
Katsuki picked up the comb on his table and began to part his hair so he could tame the frizz of it, making sure to apply some to the ends as he began to comb it out.
He then moved to open the herbal pomade and with some in his fingers he first began applying some to the front of his hair and then used a brush to help bring it back, making his hair appear smooth and give him a good appearance. The final touches using a cream coloured hair tie to put it in a small bun.
Once that was completed he used the last cream - which was rice bran. It was something every budding omega used in their village and was highly recommended to moisturise skin to leave it soft and smooth. Katsuki was dead set on using this cream daily to not have a repeat on having his skin prickle from coldness like it did in winter.
The weather was different than how it was back then and Katsuki was happy that summer was finally washing over their village.
He washed his hands in the basin, grabbed his apron, securing it around his waist and looked himself in the mirror for anything out of place before nodding at his appearance.
-
Katsuki hummed to himself as he came back into the house with the mackerel he’d grilled outside. By now he could hear some bustle outside the street and was happy that he’d been able to cook miso soup and steamed rice for todays breakfast.
He brought out the small bowls and plates and began to first put the rice in it’s own bowl whilst using a ladle to pour reasonable amounts of soups into the other.
‘‘Your bright and early.’’ a gruff voice spoke.
Katsuki, not taking an eye off his preparations said, ‘‘You got a problem with that?’’
Footsteps stepped up behind him and Katsuki placed the final mackerel onto a plate before looking up at his mother. Mitsuki Bakugou had a tired scowl on her face and looked like she did not want to be anywhere but bed.
‘‘Rough night?’’ he asked, passing over a cup of green tea that his sire took immediately.
She grunted in response and Katsuki fought the nerve to roll his eyes at the blatant lack of response. As a omega still unmated in his parents home Katsuki had been given the duty of morning prep, meaning-
‘‘Where’s my fucking breakfast?’’ She asked impatiently and Katsuki sighed silently through his nostrils as he turned around to place his mother’s dish.
She took the chopsticks on top of the bowl and first took a bite from the rice slowly. Katsuki knew from the way she was looking that she probably wanted to find a fault in his cooking - like she did everyday since his dad left cooking breakfast up to him.
He turned around back to his preparation of his dad’s breakfast once the older alpha began to scarf down the rice and drinking from the soup.
‘‘Oh Kats, something smells good,’’ a gentle voice announced as they entered the kitchen. Masaru seemed to be dressed in a similar wear to Bakugou but better suited for business in the shop and sewing.
‘‘Good morning Pa,’’ he replied, ignoring the way his father went up to his mother and kissed her temple, making her chuff in some sort of endearing way.
His mother has always been a uptight female alpha to him. Never being too rude or too kind to others but always made sure Katsuki was brought up under a firm hand when it came to discipline whilst also getting comfort - from his father.
It was a weird dynamic but he’d heard worse.
He placed his father the same dish as his mother’s and nodded at the appreciative look sent his way before getting his food and sitting in the middle of them. Katsuki wasn’t really one to joining in on their conversations and only focused on finished his food so then he could be ready to collect his parents ones, whilst also thinking on what they needed today.
He however was snapped out of his thoughts by his mother saying, ‘‘Oi brat.’’
Katsuki looked up from where he’d been staring at the edge of his empty bowl and saw his parents giving him expectant looks.
‘‘Have you finished eating?’’ he asked, glancing between the two. He realised that was a dumb question since his parents were still halfway through their meal and he’d scraped his clean.
His father gave him an amused look. ‘‘No Katsuki. Me and your mother were just discussing what you could wear to the summer festival.’’
The realisation slowly dawned on him. The summer festival was a season where pretty much all the omegas got courted. Katsuki had known too much of that season to not know about it. The summer festival was where the Yuuei market made sales on their best goods and produce and also where the omegas performed dances as entertainment to the townsfolk. By the end of it there’d be a big feast in the main hall, built in the center of the Yuuei village, where families ate happily in rejoice of another successful summer but also for those in the village who chose a mate.
‘‘Oh yea,’’ he coughed awkwardly. ‘‘That event.’’
‘‘Yes, that event ,’’ his mother repeated in an agreeing tone, not sounding pleased in the slightest.
‘‘Oh come on you two,’’ His father replied, ‘‘This time is a wonderful season for us to get more customers, but also for Katsuki to find a mate.’’
His mother looked to be in a debate about this mentally.
Yes, she treated him like a mouse balanced on a stick sometimes, but that doesn’t mean she ain’t protective of him - their only pup. However, the idea of gaining more customers seemed to be steering her towards a different light.
‘‘I guess that could be good,’’ she finally relented.
Katsuki wanted to bang his head against the table.
He’d been fine these past three years without any mates on his mind. He was more focused on making sure he lived up to his dam and sire’s expectations as a good son who could be seen as a good heir to their business one day.
The Bakugou family ran a famous well known tailor shop. They had been doing so since this village was founded with their other four founders. His mother was from the main bloodline of it and his father married into the family once he got with his mother. So when they had him that made him next to carry on the business and it’s bloodline.
‘‘So Katsuki,’’ his mother started, red eyes meeting his now slightly nervous ones.
‘‘Do you have an alpha that has…Piqued your interest?’’
His father chuckled, ‘‘Or in better words do they meet the standards your mother would have for them?’’
Katsuki huffed, standing up. ‘‘No.’’
His mother raised an unamused eyebrow. ‘‘No?’’
‘‘No, I haven't thought of anyone,’’ Katsuki clarified as he piled their dishes together.
‘‘C’mon Kats you can’t tell me that whilst every omega of your generation is aiming for one alpha, you have none?’’ his father questioned in a disbelieving tone.
‘‘Sadly so.’’
His mother scoffed, ‘‘Brat you're obviously lying.”
“Am not!” Katsuki snapped as he began to wash their dishes.
In reality Katsuki knew his sire couldn’t be fooled when he lied. The two tell-tales of this would be when his ears turn red and the other would be when his scent of citrus would spike up a bit.
Surprisingly the woman didn’t try to throttle him for any information and left to go open up shop. His father on the other hand remained, brown eyes watching him through the glass frame of his glasses.
“Katsuki.”
“Yes Pa?” His back turned to him as he scrubbed a stain of mackerel off one of their plates.
“I hope you know that…Your mother and I only wants what’s best for you.”
Katsuki paused in his movements at that and didn’t know what to say. His mouth opened and closed, nothing coming out, as his father left the dining room and at that moment Katsuki’s shoulders slumped.
“Of course I know that,” he whispered in the quietness of the kitchen.
