Work Text:

Harry had been feeling… odd.

It was currently July and he and Charlie were staying at the Burrow for part of the summer. Harry had the summer off and had finished most of his lesson planning for the start of term for the upcoming school year and Charlie had some vacation time from the reserve he had transferred to in Scotland. The Scottish reserve was closer to both Potter Manor and The Burrow than the one in Romania and Charlie was able to easily floo or apparate home each night after work. Both Charlie and Harry appreciated him being able to do that.

They’d started dating after the war ended and got engaged not too long afterwards. They’d been married for a few months at this point. Harry had taken the post of DADA professor after graduating (they’d had an eighth year for those who wanted and nearly his entire class opted to return for that extra year).

Mrs. Weasley had been thrilled that Harry was marrying into the family, regardless of which of her children he was with. Nobody was surprised.

Currently, he’d been feeling sick for the past week or so. He was having trouble keeping much down and threw up nearly everything he ate. He was not having a good time. He was helping Mrs. Weasley cook some breakfast when another bout of nausea hit him and he rushed from the room, running to the loo. He hit the tile in front of the toilet just as the little he’d eaten already made a reappearance. It didn’t take long before Mrs. Weasley was at the door, followed by Hermione. The three of them were the only ones up at the moment so it wasn’t surprising that they’d heard his mad dash to the loo, especially since Mrs. Weasley had been in the kitchen with Harry when he’d run.

“Harry, dear, why didn’t you mention you weren’t feeling good?” Mrs. Weasley asked as Harry flushed the toilet and leaned back against the wall. Hermione looked worried from where she stood in the doorway behind Mrs. Weasley who’d moved into the room and was kneeling next to Harry.

“I thought I was done with whatever this is,” Harry sighed, really tired of whatever this was.

Mrs. Weasley got an interested look on her face. “Dear, how long have you been dealing with this?”

Harry groaned a little as his stomach flipped a bit, threatening to rebel again. “Ugh, about a week or so? Why?”

“...Have you had any other symptoms?”

Harry racked his brain a bit. “Uhm, just some fatigue, but I think that’s all. Why?”

Hermione had gotten a gleam of recognition in her eyes the same time Mrs. Weasley did.

“Harry,” Hermione started as Mrs. Weasley smiled at him, “have you considered that you might be… pregnant?”

Harry’s brain short-circuited.

He vaguely knew that men in the wizarding world could get pregnant, and while he and Charlie hadn’t really been doing anything to prevent it, they hadn’t really talked much about how many children they wanted. All each of them knew was they wanted children but Harry wasn’t sure they’d been planning on one so early.

(With how powerful Harry and his magic were, they probably should’ve expected that it’d be a lot easier for him to conceive than most other wizards).

“Uhm, no, I hadn’t,” Harry responded, a bit in shock. Mrs. Weasley was still smiling.

“There’s a spell that we can do as an at-home test,” Mrs. Weasley said, helping Harry stand back up and fretting a bit as they walked to the living room. Hermione was watching him like a hawk. He might be pregnant, but if he was then he wasn’t overly far along yet and had no other symptoms beyond the fatigue and nausea.

Which threatened to make him run back to the loo.

That’s when Charlie walked in, yawning a bit. His eyes locked on Harry immediately, noticing the look on his face. He rushed over to him, not noticing the smiles on both his mother’s and Hermione’s faces.

“Harry, babe, you ok? You still not feeling well?” Charlie asked, full of worry. He’d been woken up a bit by Harry having to rush to the loo during these bouts of nausea.

“Uh, about that,” Harry said, feeling a blush start on his cheeks, “so, from what your mum and Hermione have said, I think I might be pregnant…” Harry trailed off a bit. “We were actually about to do an at-home spell to check.”

Charlie looked like he was just as shocked as Harry had been when Hermione mentioned the possibility and Mrs. Weasley had reinforced it.

“You… you think you might be pregnant?” he asked, a hint of excitement in his voice.

“That’s what the spell is gonna determine, hopefully.”

Charlie sat next to Harry, arm around his shoulders as Harry leaned against him slightly. Mrs. Weasley took out her wand and started casting the spell, Hermione watching intently, likely memorizing whatever spell was being used for possible future use and/or to look up later in one of those spell books she had.

After a few moments, Molly’s face broke into a wide grin.

“It looks like you'll be giving me another grandchild!” she nearly exclaimed. Harry felt his brain blank for a moment before a smile spread across his face.

“I’m… I’m pregnant?”

“Yes, dear, you are.”

“Congrats Harry, Charlie!” Hermione exclaimed, hugging the two of them. Charlie turned to Harry with a matching smile on his face.

“We’re going to have a baby…”

By the end of breakfast, the rest of the house (and family) knew.

When Harry went on paternity leave, Remus took over his classes at Hogwarts. Harry would be back shortly before exams. Sirius was also going to be helping Harry with the baby once they were born, just as Mrs. Weasley was going to be doing as well.

At this point in his pregnancy, his morning sickness had finally stopped, but the fatigue was 1000 times worse, he had trouble sleeping, his back hurt (though spells and potions did wonders for that), and he felt absolutely huge.

Charlie was on paternity leave as well, making sure he was at Harry’s side for everything and getting him whatever he needed and/or wanted.

And shortly after their son James Sirius Potter was born. Harry knew that despite how awful certain aspects of the pregnancy and birth were, he definitely still wanted more children and he could see the same desire in his husband’s eyes as well, as they held their newborn.

Mrs. Weasley immediately started cooing over her newest grandchild as soon as others were allowed in the room with them. Ron and Hermione congratulated them and let them know the rest of the family was waiting as well, but didn’t want to crowd them just yet. Harry couldn’t stop smiling the entire time.
