When Padre Flores had told them that their situation wasn't quite as impossible as they feared, it had of course been Bruno who remained pessimistic, having spent four decades under the curse of his gift, then the suspicion of the townspeople and later most of his family, and finally the past two years hating himself for loving one of his nieces quite differently from the others. Mirabel, by contrast, was all hope and youthful optimism - her dreams looked like they would come true! "It'll be okay," she reassured him after one of the town gossips made a particularly stinging remark in their earshot. "We'll be okay."
However, after several weeks passed not hearing back from that bishop who the vision they'd done together showed was supposed to be in a fine, new residence in the old Antioquian capital, it was Mirabel that snapped, "I can't stand it! If they're not going to let us marry, what are we waiting for?" She flung her arms around his neck and pulled him towards her.
Bruno stopped her, shaking his head. He then slid her glasses down slightly and kissed her below an eyebrow, which made her smile again. "Patience, mi vida. Patience."
