Chapter 1: The star

Chapter Text

Centuries ago there was a goddess, she was loved by all for her abilities. She was able to grow crops with just a flick of her fingers, she could build houses without touching a thing, she could even make food without gathering the ingredients. Day by day the village would worship her and ask her to do more for them. One day they asked for something the goddess couldn't believe.

"Give us your power." They demanded, the goddess granted their request like she did every other time. She trusted the mortals, they were sweet and did no harm. The humans abused the new powers they were granted, some went to the goddess for more powers or requested a certain power they wanted. The goddess would grant their requests with uncertainty, wondering if she made a mistake by giving these greedy mortals something so divine.

The humans caused chaos, destroying anyone who refused them, attacking other humans who disagreed with them. Hurting their own kind over a small dispute. They used it as an advantage in the wars, against humans who had no such powers. They concurred land.

The goddess was horrified, she couldn't believe they would slaughter their own people. She was filled with rage, she set a curse on the ones who did wrong. A cute that turned them into horrible beasts, mindless beasts. A new savior was born that day, a hero, ---- Lionheart. She would kill the beasts that attacked the cities and towns, slaying any beast that dared to harm a human. She was honored with the title Beast Slayer. She locked the goddess away with no help from others. Beasts still roam but there are more hero's and adventurers to get rid of them when needed.

The only family that is allowed to be called slayers is the Lionheart family. They are the hero's that the Royal family and everyone else depend on.

What a load of bull. Kat thought with distain, she used to read this book so much as a kid, always thinking she'll be appreciated just because she's a main descendent of the Lionheart family. She may be young but she's almost an adult now, she's not an oblivious little kid anymore.

She closed the book as she stared down at the cover, she couldn't read anymore, she doesn't even have to. Kat has memorized the whole book. Humans slay beast's still but a new species was born, Demihumans. A mix of a beast and a human. Along with that humans are able to form contracts with beasts, it makes them stronger and they will have a partnership.

Kat, unluckily, is a demihuman. Her dad was a demihuman and her mom a human, the two fell in love and her family hated that. Kat was born anyway, alone with maids, her mother and father ran away together, her father was captured and killed and her mother is missing. Assumed dead. Kat was found with her father and was taken back to the family as a baby.

Neither the humans or demihumans want Kat, she's not a full human neither a full demihuman. All she has is a stupid tail.

She could've been happy with her parents if they didn't find them.

Kat stood up, her tail sliding along the floor. She wasn't supposed to be awake, the maids her to bed hours ago. She wasn't tired, she never was once she starts thinking about everything.

A bright light filled the room, Kat glanced out the window just fast enough to see something crash into the barn out back. There was no sound, just the bright light getting smaller as it disappeared. "..shooting star.." she mumbled in amazement as she quickly made her way out the room, footsteps as silent as a cat as she made her way downstairs. She trained herself to be quiet on her feet.

She snuck out the backdoor, she slowed down her steps as she carefully walked towards the barn, curiously peaking her head in. The horses seemed calm and only slightly agitated.

She patted Caramel's snout as she walked towards the spot of hay the animals, even the mice, were avoiding. Kat slowly creeped forward as she looked over. It was a person.

They were laying in the hay, passed out. Kat carefully got down on her knees to get a closer look at them, she couldn't help but be excited, a person that fell from the sky! It was amazing and unheard of!

The person had black hair that was just a few inches above the shoulders, hair that curled in at the end and looked almost poofy. A frilly shirt collar that also frilled at the bottom of the shirt that was above their stomach, something like a sweater over the shirt. And a bottom outfit that looked like a pencil skirt that was frilly at the bottom. They had pouches that crossed over each other to look like an x with these long soft pouches on top of the edge of the straps.

The most noticable part to Kat was their face.. the left part of their face was covered. Not with a cloth but there was no eye there, just a curved and pointy like shape, it was almost a mix of yellow and orange.

Kat was about to try and wake them up when their eyes suddenly snapped open, focusing on Kat. She was frozen as she stared at them, almost hypnotized in a way. Their eye was a dark purple color with a star shaped pupil. It was pretty, everything about this person was something new.

They suddenly lunged towards Kat, she squeaked as she quickly moved out of the way as the person crashed against the floor, her tail curled around her leg as support. "Hey, hey! You can't suddenly do that! What's wrong with you!?" Her tail was moving in agitation as she watched the person get up.

They turned to look at Kat. "Who are you and where am I? What am I doing here. This was your doing, right?" They seemed a bit aggressive.. like they wouldn't hesitate to lunge at her again.

"I wasn't the one who brought you here, you feel from the sky! And you're in my barn" she said as she backed up a bit more just in case of a sudden attack.

They stared at her for a few moments before they relaxed on their knees. "Oh."

They took a few silent moments to process as they started fidgeting with the fur pouches on their hips.

"Are you okay?" Kat asked carefully as she got a bit closer. They shook their head. "No. I don't know how I got here and I don't know how to get back. Nothing about this is okay! Oh my lady! I need to get back," Kat flinched slightly as they stood up abruptly.

"Uh, back?" She questioned.

"Yes, back to the skys, to my lady!" Kat stood up as she squeezed her tail, she plays with it, the others say it's a nervous tick of hers.

"So you really did come from the sky?" She said with amazement as she let go of her tail, taking a step closer to the stranger now.

"That's awesome! What's your name? Are you an alien? You don't look like a demihuman but also not quite human" she said as her tail swayed behind her.

"No. I'm a celestial." They said as they took a step back as Kat took another step forward. "A celestial?" She mused, "what's that? Do you have a name?"

"I- yes I do have a name, it's Sawyer." They responded. "And a celestial is someone who's in or beyond the stars, I am a lower celestial who serves my lady Astr-"

"So you're like a shooting star! No, a fallen star!" Kat was filled with curiosity and amazement, she just couldn't help it. She's never had anything interesting happen in her life, nothing like this. "Oh, my name is Kathrine but you can call me Kat!"

"A.. star?" Sawyer stared at Kat before they looked away and cleared their throat. "I'm no star. I may have been created from one but I am better than a simple star."

Kat just smiled as her tail sweeped along the floor, most likely getting dirt and strands of hay in it.

"If you can't get home then what about staying with me? I can keep you a secret from my maids and butlers!" She suggested to Sawyer, she was just excited at the chance of having a friend. It would be like a sleepover, her first sleepover.

"To stay with a mortal is absurd." They said with crossed arms. "So you'd rather roam the earth by yourself to find a way to get back to your home. You'd most likely be taken captive for your strange look, for looking new and special."

It was silent. "...I'll stay with you.." they said with a quiet mutter.

Kat was jumping with joy in her mind as her tail swayed from side to side, practically wagging as some would say. She lead Sawyer into the manor, sneaking them upstairs and into her room.

"You can sleep in here with me!" She said with a smile. "With.. you." Sawyer just stared at Kat. "Well yeah, I can't have the maid's finding you.. oh, you need pajamas!"

She walked further into her room opening the door to her closet which was as big as a whole nother room! You can fit like 5 or more beds in there without stacking them on each other. King sized beds.

"Hm, I don't exactly have boy clothes.. oh, are you even a boy?" She questioned as she glanced at Sawyer. "You wear a skirt and girl like clothes but you have a guy name!"

"I am neither male or female, I do not have a biological gender. And this is not a skirt!" Sawyer said as they glanced around the closet room.

"Oh, well I can just give you a nightgown like mine!" She was wearing a pastel green color silk nightgown, it went down to her ankles and had a little bow around the collar. "Maybe a purple to match your eyes." She thought out loud as she pulled out a velvet purple nightgown, silk as well. It was long and had frills at the end of the elbow length sleeves.

"It seems like it'd fit you, yeah?"

"Yeah, I suppose it does.." Sawyer nodded as they took it from her hands.

"Change then we can sleep!" Kat said as she left her closet, closing the door behind her and happily flopping back on her bed. A friend! A friend to spend the night with! She got comfortable under her blanket as she waited for Sawyer.

Sawyer walked back into the room after a few minutes. "Where am I sleeping?" They questioned. Kat patted the spot next to her on the bed. "With me obviously" she flashed them a smile, sharp canines on display.

"I thought mortals usually don't sleep in the same bed together so soon.." Sawyer seemed a bit weary as they climbed under the blanket with the girl.

"They usually don't... But we're friends!" She said happily. "Telling you my name makes us friends?"

"Um.. well almost friends! Plus were sharing a bed and you're staying with me, and I gave you pajamas.. that's what friends do" She wanted them to be friends so badly.

"I suppose we can be friends." They finally said with a sigh. "Really..? You'd be my first friend."

"You'd be mine too.. go to bed already, mortal." Sawyer ignored the sounds of Kat's tail thumping against the bed as they closed their eyes to sleep after she did the same. They can't believe they were staying with a mortal like her.
