Work Text:
The day had started far earlier than usual.
In fact, his sleep had been cut short by his daughter... As the ball of energy had decided to come jump on their bed at 5 a.m sharp.
Her little feet had kicked his sensitive ribs under the warm blanket.
Her high-pitched voice had resonated in the almost bare room while she had shouted about: “hollow-win”, “goat-party” and “tricky candy”.
He wondered where she even learnt about halloween, the monster had no memories of anyone explaining it to her. The loud child had been finally driven off by the promise of a colorful breakfast if she left them a few minutes alone to properly wake up.
That was then that he had noticed his partner, who slept through the ruckus or just faked sleeping, cracking open an eye.
“Did Vivid leave yet, Geno.”
The fake sleep theory definitely sounded like the right answer.
Geno ignored the question and yanked away the blanket from Nightmare without a word. The other desperately tried to reach for it as it flew away but he wasn’t fast enough. His unique arm flopped down on the bouncy mattress as he shot a nasty glare to Geno, who was shamelessly smiling. The skeleton then reached for his scarf neatly folded under his cushion and secured it around his neck before jumping out of bed, (somehow) full of energy.
The wooden door of the closet creaked open under his eager fingers, Geno wasted no time and started rummaging through haphazardly stacked boxes.
Nightmare’s eyes tingled his neck but he ignored the negative spirit who was probably just wondering about the very unusual burst of energy. He softly blew away some dust from the box between his hands before opening it. Shiny fabrics coming in various hues of black, purple, red and white greeted him. His only functional eyelight brightened at the sight. That should be enough!
He glanced towards the still sitting-in-bed guardian.
“Could you distract our stubborn strawberry the time of a breakfast?”
Nightmare blinked at the question but didn’t answer otherwise.
He should be able to do that. Geno saw how much he improved at cooking with one arm recently. Refocusing on his box, he all but ignored the shuffling noise of someone coming closer.
“What are you doing?”
His answer only came after he picked up a silver needle and put a sparkling string through the eye.
“Vi seems interested in halloween, the least I can do is to try to sew her a costume…”
A warm smile settled on his partner’s face.
“Fine! I’ll go feed our little terror,” Nightmare brushed his hand against Geno’s shoulder, “good luck with that.”
He sighed but left the room with a lightness in his steps that Geno knew only was meant for when his darling was happy.
It was going to be a great day!
