I Don't Want To Be Lived Through (A Vicarious Occasion)

Summary:

A collection of my original poetry from 2019 to the present.

Chapter 1: Raindrops on Saturday

Chapter Text

Have you ever been nostalgic for a life you've never had?
Sunbeams catch the dust across eyes and bed,
Alighting on the dreams you're afraid to have,
Set aflame to these old pretense filled pages,
To fill your thirsty lungs with sweeter smoke.

Raindrops on Saturday wash the day away,
Soaking in memories to scrub at the seams
Of incoherent wishes and imagined scenes,
I only want to see the stars to know that they are real,
I just want to touch my heaven to know that I can feel.

Just to know that I can feel.

When you fell in love with a lie did it hurt to realise?
Reaching to catch your nightmare while it’s warm,
Sands of sleep slipping through your palms,
For heavy tongues to recount disant faded verse,
Lying tastes much better before you’ve woke.

Raindrops on Saturday soothe my scars today,
Drenching my demons with melancholy themes,
In familiar melodies made by unconscious means,
I only want to see the stars to know that they are real,
I just want to touch my heaven to know that I can feel.

Just to know that I can feel.

Did you feel like real life never did you any justice?
Possibilities are the paintbox of the soul,
But you’ve never had control of the brush,
Born too late for a taste of technicolour,
The rose-tinted glasses of youth long broke.

Raindrops on Saturday bloom flowers in May,
Flooding the senses and swelling the streams,
Running down to the river with whom it convenes,
I only want to see the stars to know that they are real,
I just want to touch my heaven to know that I can feel.

Just to know that I can feel,
Just to know that I can feel.
