Piercing Shadows, Amber Forest

Summary:

I was sad to see that there wasn’t a lot of these going around, so I thought “fine then, I’ll make one myself.” Fire emblem gamer fic, in Fodlan!
Nothing too crazy, i hope.

I didn't know when I had entered this void, or how long i have been in the void, but these numbers meant only one thing: something or someone just gave me a second chance, one that I'm more then welcome take, but my excitement was quelled when a sound resounded from... somewhere in the void, as words in a text box over take my sight.

<Greetings, User:

   Due to a error in our soul Incarnation Network, You have been given to something known as ‘the system’, which shall enable you to do great feats in the next world, which will be randomly selected from games or other media you have consumed in the past. After this notification, a pop up for your background for the next world will show, choose carefully, as your next choices WILL BE PERMANENT.

Regards,

Vapor, chief of processing>

And just like the text box had said, a new window popped up, with a list of four background frames for my next life.

<backgrounds>

<framing 1: forgotten heir-

you are the last in line for a title and name.

Starts with noble class and starts with a random positive noble passive.>

<framing 2: talented commoner-

A ruling noble or your village has noticed your skill, and wants you to not waste it.

starts with the selected skill at rank d+, two random other skills gain exp slower.>

<framing 3: child of mercenaries-

Instead of leaving you an orphan, you were brought along and taught to be a mercenary from a young age. start with one unique trait, unique traits are a mix of positive and negative attributes.>

<framing four: the great experiment-

You are the product of a great experiment. You gain enhanced stats when fighting, but equipment breaks easily in combat.>

I’m definitely not a fan of breaking weapons if i can help it , so number four is out, and noblesse oblige stuff is Restrictive, so lost heir is out, and while starting with a skill at higher rank for the chance that another I want high will take forever to do it’s not a risk I’m going to take; Which leaves…

< child of mercenaries: selected.

Unique trait, added. name: hidden for suspense.>

'Pricks.' I thought, rather wanting to know what to build into.

< To add a bit more pizzazz, in update 2.1.11.9T, We have elected to add traits: little modifications you can add. Much like your background frame, these will give you a little hint upon the world you shall go into.

Find your path,

-Kel, chief of design & balance >

<Traits(choose up to two.)>

< heavy handed: Melee and unarmed attacks do 25% more damage before defensive reduction, but you are 10% less likely to critically hit.>

<finesse: melee and unarmed attacks are 25% more likely to critically hit, but do 10% less damage

<Duelist: one handed melee weapons are 20% more likely to hit, while two handed melee weapons are 40% less likely to hit.>

the list went on, there were a few interesting ones that popped out, a couple ones on crafting, a few ones that moved stats around, but most interesting to me was…

<Gift of Shadows: replaces your base holy spell list with dark magic. Note: due to nosferatu being dark magic in other worlds, we are including it in both Lists. Gains unique conversations.>

I had scrolled through more text, carefully reading each one, but one was a great trait to pair with the other I had chosen.

< Spell Squire: you use spells at half efficiency with medium armor, and a 3/4 efficiency in light armor, but you lose access to mage archetype classes. Gain special conversations.>

Doing a once over, I hesitate over <Quickhanded> and  <Silver-Tongued Decorum>, but continued on, hoping that my, granted lacking from their previous life but not from effort, own talking and crafting methods would be fine. then, the hopefully final Popup appeared.

< Best of luck in your new world. We are dropping you in early earlier than the media starts, this will allow you to build up a small amount of skill.>

<The system experiences updates from time to time, of which, all activated abilities must be utilized by calling out their name. Otherwise, you may think the name.

Enjoy your once in a lifetime of opportunity,

vapor.>

And then, the screens faded away, And I fell through the ink, being changed by it. as horror filled my heart, understanding what the system does, as it attempts to recycle and Recode my Soul. While not protecting my body physically, for users, like me; the soul and identity of them is partially protected, only allowing the changes The System allows.

When I finally fully fell through, a bright text shined in into my eye.

<Welcome to Fodlan, User Alex.”>
