Project Change

Summary:

"We always knew there was a possibility that one of us would have to stay here." The oldest man, Shou apparently, took off his necklace that had his wedding rings on it. "You'll know he trusts you when he calls you Problem Child, I know you can do it." He gave the girl the necklace.

"So why does it have to be you who stays? You're the teacher, you're the hero. You should be one of us who goes." The younger man whisper yelled.

"Kid, I won't separate the two of you. It would hurt the one who went with me to not have your sibling know what you went through. Yes, I know it'll hurt for me to not remember you, but I know that you will explain it all when the time comes. I trust the two of you." Shou said, giving them the most comforting smile, he could.

"... you're right... I just... I don't feel ready." The youngish man said.

" I know, but you have years of being Vigilantes, and, even though it's not the best source of training, you have the apocalypse that trained your stealth. You two can do this, I know you can." This time Shou gave them a real smile.

Chapter Text

"Shou no, the plan was for all three of us to go, together." I cried.

Now, you may be wondering how we got there, so let me explain. About a decade ago, there was a pandemic, now, I don't know if it was a natural pandemic, but it does not matter. Now, when I was about fifteen, a group popped up; they called themselves the League of Villains, and their leader was Shigaraki Toumura, remember that name. A couple years later, another virus desecrated the world. This one was created by one Shigaraki Toumura, and the walls that were once used to keep villains out had let the virus spread, and when one had left, they most likely had the virus but didn't know. This meant they were widening the spread of the virus. The virus that we know was made by Shigaraki made people into Nomus. He did that by creating the virus to give the people already infected another quirk, making them Nomus... the one-time being quirkless was a good thing cause it meant we couldn't get the virus, meaning that we WERE safe from becoming Nomus until Shigaraki released Nomus EVERYWHERE and two of them could turn people into Nomus. One of them, we call the Snakebite Nomus because their bite can turn people into Nomus. Then there are the Water Nomus or the Blue Nomus; they pollute their water source, and if anyone drinks that water without purifying it, they will become Nomus. All the survivors have learned to purify any water they come across, and the best source is rainwater whenever it rains. There were a few survivors, most of them Pro Heroes. The Pro Heroes that were in our group were Eraserhead (Aizawa Shouta), Present Mic (Yamada Hizashi), Midnight (Kayama Nemuri), Power Loader (Higari Maijima), Hawks (Takami Keigo), Mrs. Joke (Fukukado Emi), and Snipe (David Wald). We also had a former villain, Dabi, who was formerly thought dead by his family, and our childhood best friend Katsuki. All of them, except for me, my twin Izuku, and Shou, have died.

3rd person POV

"I... I don't want to leave you." The man said, crying into Shou's chest while Shou wrapped his arms around him.

"I know, but this isn't goodbye." Shou said, trying to comfort them, but the girl wasn't thinking like that.

"It kinda is... When we get there... You won't be you." The girl said before they heard Shigaraki's laughter. "Crap, I thought we'd have more time."

"Hey, it's ok. Go, NOW. I love you kids." Shou said, kissing them on the forehead.

They ran through the portal that they recently finished. It sent our minds into our bodies... That stood on a rooftop... With All Might. The worst and best day of their lives.

"So no, I cannot say in good conscience, that someone quirkless can be a hero." All Might said.

The girl ignored All Might as she had already heard this before, instead thinking about what just happened and what their plan of action was going to be. Soon enough All Might left and her and her brother were standing on the roof. Soon after they heard explosions.

Daniella's pov

While we were going downstairs Izuku asked what our plan was.

"Save Kacchan, go to the beach and live there until we get into U.A, but before getting into U.A become vigilantes and try to find Shigaraki and kill him before he can cause the end of the world." I responded.

"Ok... This is going to be rough."

"Yeah... Just wait until we see Shou this next year..." I said before realizing. "Oh God, we're going to run into him as Vigilantes, maybe not immediately, but sooner or later he's going to be put on our case, especially since I plan on annoying the crap out of Naomasa as vigilantes."

"Oh I'm in for annoying Naomasa."

"I knew you would be."

"Same names as the first run?"

"Yeah, I think so."

We went to help Kacchan and left before we could be lectured.

"Ok, we should get our stuff at 'home' then figure put our vigilante crap sooner rather than later."

"Yeah, you figure out the Vigilante stuff, and I'll get our stuff from 'home'."

"Go straight to the beach and figure the shit out?"

"Yes."

"Ok, see you soon."

I went to our 'home', grabbed the stuff we would need, and went back to the beach.

"Hey Dani... crap, we're still at 'odds' with Kacchan, he hasn't explained his actions."

"Damn, we need to get that fixed as soon as possible... do we know where he lives?" I asked.

"I think he's still at his childhood home." Izu replied.

We went to Kacchan's childhood home and knocked at the door, luckily Kacchan opened it.

"What do you want nerds?" Kacchan asked.

"Why do you treat us like you do? And don't say it's because we're quirkless, I know that's not it." I said, giving no room for argument.

"I... it infuriates me that you say you want to be heroes but do nothing to work towards it. I'm... I'm scared for you, I don't want you to die." Kacchan ranted.

"Kacchan..." I didn't know what to say... he's right, we did nothing to train, and that's why we failed in the first run.

"And then you run into a fight like an idiot, but I can't be mad at you cause you saved me when the heroes didn't, and I didn't deserve it." He ranted before taking a breath and asked the question I knew he would. "Why did you save me?"

"We saved you because we knew you had a reason you treated us like you did." I replied in a calm voice. Tears started to stream down Kacchan's face.

"I'm sorry... I'm so so sorry, I shouldn't have told you to take a swan dive off the roof, either of you, it just... came out, and I regretted it the moment it left my mouth."

This time Izu spoke up. "Kacchan, I forgive you, we both do, right Dani?"

"Of course, I forgive you, I never hated you, for anything."

The three of us hugged.

"Why? I don't deserve your forgiveness... I was HORRIBLE to the two of you."

"But you didn't mean any of it." I said.

"But I still said it, still did it, and I can never take back the harm I have caused." he cried.

"Kacchan... our 'mother' has left more scars than you have." Izu said.

"I know... I have always watched you two, I have seen you two come to school with black eyes, you were always worse Dani, your protective nature. I have seen scars on your arms that I know you didn't have when you left school, scars that didn't come from my explosions. I have always known that you were being abused, but I didn't do anything... I'm sorry." He apologized, when would he learn that neither of us blame him for anything?

"Kacchan, there was nothing you COULD do, no one would believe you, and either way, we left her house today, we're free of her." Izu said, trying to comfort him.

"I'm glad, where are you staying now?" Kacchan asked.

"... Dagoba beach." I replied, and he visibly froze.

"Is there any way I could get you to stay with me?" He asked hopefully.

"Not really, no." I replied. We hung out at the park nearby until sunset. "We've got to go; I want to be back before it's completely dark."

"Ok, bye nerds." Kacchan said, heading back to his home.

We went back to the beach and went to bed, determining to work on our vigilante stuff tomorrow.

"I'll get started on our costumes, you go ahead and start working on our support items..." I started and then something came to me. "Soon we'll be able to get actual support items."

"Ok."

We went outside to get stuff to make our shit.  I went to get metal to make our costumes slash resistant, and Izu to get stuff to start work on our support items. We decided to go with the same support gear that we did in the first run, what we started calling the future that we are trying to prevent. A slash resistant jacket and hood with our colors on the top of the hood and edges of the jacket, a reddish-pink for me, and a darker red for Izu, a mask with a filtration feature, and gloves to prevent our fingerprints from helping the police from figuring our identity out. Our outfits will be a simple one piece, that is slash resistant, and is in our colors... I still have to figure out how to make our costumes slash resistant while still comfortable. Luckily, having done this before, we got the stuff done within two months, meaning that we have time before U.A. to find Shigaraki, instead of it taking a year to make like it did in the first run.

"You got the stuff ready?" I asked.

"Yep, you got the costumes?"

"Almost, they will be done by time for patrol tonight."

"Ok... crap, we still have school today."

"Ok, you go, just say I'm sick, we have to get this done by tonight, or we won't have enough time to get their trust and get any info on Shigaraki that they find."

"Ok."

I worked on the costumes the whole time Ku was at school. I was almost done when he and Kacchan got there.

"Hey Dani, Kacchan came to visit us." Ku said.

"Hey Kacchan." I said, barely looking up before continuing on my costume.

"Hey Nerd... you ok? You never miss school, even when you are actually sick." Kacchan asked.

"I'm fine, I just needed to finish something up by tonight, it couldn't wait to be finished any longer."

"Is there anyway I can help?" Kacchan asked.

"No, I've almost got it, thanks though." I replied.

“Ok, do you want company while you finish it up?” Kacchan suggested.

“Sure, thanks.”

We spent time hanging out while I finished my costume.

“Thanks for the company, but I’m getting kinda tired.” I lied, not about enjoying his company, but about being tired, I just needed to try on my costume.

I went to the right like I told Zu I would, and after a bit, I was almost to our meeting spot before going to where we started; I ran into a few muggers, thieves, and rapists, but nothing I couldn't handle. I was just about to go to another roof when I heard Zu asking for help.

"I got four guys with knives; I'm at xxxx xxxxx St, hurry." I heard in the coms.

"Ok, I'm on my way." I tell him, changing my direction to go where he told me. I got there soon and joined the fight, and soon enough, we beat the four and tied them up.

"Tell Tsukauchi that the Remnants say hi." I said before we climbed back on top of the roof, separating for a bit before completing our route. After that, we went back to the beach.

"We need to figure out a schedule; it would be dumb for both of us to go out every night." I said.

"So what's the plan?" Zu asked.

"We switch; one goes one day while the other rests and the other goes the next day; we both take Saturdays and Sundays off." I said after a while.

For the next few weeks, we messed with Tsukauchi, putting sticky notes in his office, texting him at random times in the middle of the night while on patrol, and, of course, I can't forget the time we sent him on a wild goose chase while busting a quirk canceling drug deal, that one we both went to deal with it.

Flashback

Third Person POV

They were having so much fun; they had a big drug bust raid that day that Quirk Canceling Bullets were being sold at, and therefore, they had put Tsukauchi on a wild goose chase, as well as the hero they brought with him... Midnight, and Kami did seeing her hurt them; she was like a mother to them in the first run, and to know that she wouldn't remember them, only knowing them as vigilantes, that's part of why they were playing this little 'game' if they couldn't seeing her again, how would they react to seeing Hizashi, or Shouta? And they knew that Eraserhead would be put on the case soon; he was well known in the underground for his way with vigilantes. They were following Tsukauchi after they had completed the raid; they did their route on the first day back in the past and caught a good bit of criminals; of course, the clues that didn't involve criminals were put in places that would annoy him, like one in his desk, that reaction was hilarious, they went to his favorite coffee shop and paid for his order, and gave the cashier the next clue needed, little things like that that would annoy the crap out of him, they also text him at random points of the day, things like "Almost there" and "So close" or "You're getting warmer" those last ones were the ones that really aggravated him. And as much fun as watching Tsukauchi try to find them was, they were almost to the warehouse where the drug bust happened, and the vigilantes needed to hide.

Daniella's POV

Our promised treat was the criminals tied up, a bunch of chocolate coins in a treasure chest, and cases of the Quirk Canceling Bullets. When Tsukauchi opened the chest, he screamed.

"REMNANTS!"

"Which one? Guess who." I said; one of the police officers shot at me and got me in the arm.

"Ok, rude." Zu said.

"You're both here? You two are never out together, haven't been since you started." Tsukauchi said, startled.

"Yep, now, let's get to the point; why we sent you on the goose chase; in those cases, are Quirk Canceling Bullets; they would have ended your career if you were hit by it; they are drugs that damage, or even in some cases completely destroys, your quirk factor, didn't want you getting hit by one of these; we may be Vigilantes, but we LOVE heroes, you guys are our idols, especially since we can't become one." I started, and Izuku continued.

"As far as we know, these are the only ones in existence right now; however, just in case we missed some, they take about an hour to take effect, so if you work fast enough, you can find a way to counteract it."

"You ran us all the way across the city for this?" Nem Midnight asked.

"Yep." I replied.

"And it was any less dangerous for you two because?" Tsukauchi asked.

"Ah, ah, ah, while it is nice to know you care detective, we're not going to reveal ALL our secrets." Izuku started, and I continued.

"So, let's just say we have defenses you don't."

"They're telling the truth." He ground out.

"So, since we've met in person, I'm going to call you Naomasa, kay?"

"No, that is not okay." Naomasa growled out.

"Okay, bye Naomasa." I called out, leaving, but before I fully left the building I stopped. "Oh, and you can grab as much of that blood as you want, but it's not going to lead you anywhere."

It has been four months now, and we are having a blast; the lowered crime rate from before the League of Villains makes annoying Naomasa that much easier. Although right now, we're spending time with Kacchan.

"So, what do you guys want to do?" Kacchan asked.

"I don't know." I said. We decided to just sit and talk.

"So, what do you guys do when you're not at school and not hanging out with me?" Kacchan asked.

"Uhh, not much." I said. "Just training for the entrance exam." It wasn't exactly a lie; we are training for the U.A. entrance exam, just in a not-quite-legal way.

"Good, it's good you're training."

I climbed onto the roof to hide as a very familiar figure entered the alleyway. 'Shou...' I thought.

Flashback

Third Person's POV

Hope ducked behind a dumpster just as a man with a strange scarf that seemed to be hiding something yellow rounded the corner. The messy, untamed black hair led her to believe that it was Eraserhead, an underground hero who was famous among Vigilantes. Hope had to get out of there and fast. Just as she got to the roof from a fire escape, she felt something wrap around her ankle.

"Oh come on, that's cheating; you're supposed to have a normal scarf." Hope said, not caring that it made her seem childish. She had a very long night and just wanted to go home and sleep.

"So, who are you?"

"Hope."

"So you're that vigilante, one of the few pairs of vigilantes that I know of. You know I have to take you back to the station, right?"

"For what?"

"Nice try kid but-" She cut him off.

"I am an adult."

"You're a kid to me." He said, glaring at her. "Vigilantism is a crime, so I'm placing you under arrest."

"With what proof? Vigilantism is defined as a person using their quirk without a license to do heroics. And you have no proof I used a quirk."

"I have a friend that can help with that." He yanked on the scarf, making Hope stumble.

Hope was glad-Not for the first time-that they were paranoid. As soon as Eraserhead turned around to lead her out of the alleyway, the knife she hid in her sleeve was out and cutting through his scarf. Eraserhead looked behind him just in time to see Hope disappear over the rooftop.

Daniella's POV

I shook myself out of my flashback. I hadn't realized how hard this would be; I want nothing more than to jump down there and give him a hug, but I can't. That isn't my Shou, and I don't want him to be because my Shou is traumatized, and scarred, and dead. That is Eraserhead, not Shou; they aren't the same... not anymore. I took a deep breath; at least I had some days of experience with Nemuri; it would hurt much more if I hadn't. I looked back over the edge. I barely dodged out of sight as Eraser looked up, and I heard his capture scarf wrap around a fire escape.

Well, since I have no intention of repeating how we met in the first run, I wasted no time making my escape. I lept from roof to roof with as much practice and ease as the man behind me. He was fast, I'll give him that, but he hasn't had decades of running from dangerous and hungry monsters. Compared to that, this is a leisurely jog. I locked eyes with Eraser over my shoulder before shaking him off my tail, making him the first hero to see one of the Remnants.

Hello Eraser, nice night we're having tonight :ChaoticHope

EraserDad: How the hell did you get this number?

I have my ways :ChaoticHope

EraserDad changed his name to Eraserhead

ChaoticHope added I Will Defend and Sherlock

I Will Defend: What happened Hope?

Sherlock: What did you do this time Hope?

What makes you think I did anything? :ChaoticHope

Sherlock: You made a chat with Eraserhead.

Well, I see how it is, I guess I won't tell you that Eraser is the first Hero/Cop to see one of us. :ChaoticHope

I Will Defend: Wait, he saw you?

Yep, :ChaoticHope

Sherlock: You're kidding me, Eraser, you actually saw them?

Eraserhead: Yep, they're shorter than I expected

Hey, blame my stunted growth on a neglectful mother and malnutrition :ChaoticHope

Eraserhead: Mind giving us names?

I Will Defend: I'm Defender, she's Hope ;)

Sherlock: How about something more to go off of

I Will Defend: Hmm, how about no, we're vigilantes, not stupid.

I Will Defend: We text you guys to mess with you because we're bored, and this is funny.

There are no villains out here, so I'm talking with you instead. :ChaoticHope

I heard Eraser sigh, exasperated.

I could hear you sigh from here Eraser. I left you some coffee on the rooftop four to your left, the bags under your eyes tell me you need it. :ChaoticHope

I chuckled as I saw Eraser jump to the rooftop that I texted, only to see him find the bag of his favorite coffee grounds from his favorite cafe. He whipped his head around, trying to find me.

Eraserhead: How the hell did you know my favorite coffee?

Sherlock: She has her ways, they both know everyone's favorite coffee, snacks, doughnuts, and sandwiches. I have no clue how they do it, but they do.

Eraserhead: I'm going to lose a bunch of sleep over you two, aren't I?

Yep. :D :ChaoticHope

Izuku's POV

I chuckled as I checked the chat Dani made. It had Daniella, me, Naomasa, and Shouta. The U.A. entrance exams were coming, and we reluctantly continued attending Aldara. I could hack the systems and leave U.A. none the wiser, but we had heard about the principal's intelligence-that was one bear we didn't want to poke. It was easier to stay in Aldara, patrol every other night (besides Saturdays and Sundays), and sleep in the refurbished camper on my off days. It wasn't like the schoolwork was hard either, but Kacchan having to bully us was a pain.

By the four-month mark, the Remnants were listed as one of the most wanted in all of Japan, not because we're dangerous (we are, but they don't need to know that), but because we're so hard to catch. The only people who we'll let see us are Eraserhead and Naomasa. We'll let people see our silhouettes, but nobody can get close enough to make out any details except Eraser and Masa.

We've done some work in a few other towns, too; we decided to branch out in our search for Shigaraki. Even in Tokyo, which had some of Japan's most prevalent and talented Heroes, nobody had gotten a good look at us, let alone get close enough to capture them. But now, we're back in Masutafu after a month; I grinned at the thought of Tsukauchi and Eraser. They still have no clue that the people they're looking for are two 15-year-old middle-schoolers who don't even have quirks. Now, we still left puzzles, riddles, and other games for our favorite detective and hero duo; it ticked them both off, but I can tell we're growing on them.

Notes:

Hey, so if you know my books, you know I love to ship my main characters with others, however, this book will not have any shipping with the main characters, they are mentally 35-40 in 15-year-old bodies. That is a big no-no for me.
