Maggie excuses herself to try to walk away for a few steps trying to get her lungs filled with air. The joy with which Alex happily accepted that she would have broken to give those kids cake makes Maggie realize that Alex would have been right if they had married. She was sure they would be halfway to resentment by now on how she looked at Sam alone. Maggie feels a light tug on her elbow, she hadn’t noticed her walk had turned into a run as the tears slipped from her eyes. Alex doesn’t say anything as she takes her and holds her. Maggie feels so many emotions swirl through her but the most bitter one is that this could have all been hers if she had compromised with Alex that night instead of shutting her down and giving her an ultimatum. “Are you okay?”
Maggie pulled back lightly as she let out a humorless chuckle as Alex slightly cringes at her own question since the shorter woman looks far from okay. Maggie's stomach twisted thinking about how she tried to keep this happiness away from Alex and here she is still trying to make sure Maggie is okay. “Congrats by the way, you and the Mrs look good together.” It’s easier to say than Maggie wants to admit because she is sure that if there hadn’t been a Reign incident these two would have gotten together sooner. It stings in a way she knows it shouldn’t because she is happy with Kate. “Kid, ready to fly the nest already?” It’s hard to wrap her mind around the fact that the same helpless kid who used to crash on their couch is off to start her own life. “How old are they?” The question left her lips before she could even stop herself as the shock wore off and everything finally clicked. She feels her stomach drop as she notices the change in Alex’s attitude at the question.
“Too young to be blamed for any mistakes I have made. I suggest any anger you might feel next be directed at me and away from them or their mother.” Alex said honestly because she can admit to not having made the best decisions but Sam and her children aren’t to blame. Alex knew that no one would have a positive reaction to his ex getting someone pregnant on the night she broke their engagement off. “I’m the one that went looking for her that night,” Alex said honestly because she could have left Sam’s place at any moment, unlike Sam. The kid was surrounded by geniuses, each one of them always challenging her, letting her tinker and learn without limits. Her godmother was the CEO of the biggest Tech company since Apple Technologies.
Alex sighed softly as she smiled and arched her eyebrow as she looked at Ruby, “You haven’t told him you are going to MIT have you?” Maggie knew that Alex must be extremely proud just by the way her tone sounded when she asked the question. Maggie knows that half the DEO knows that Ruby got into MIT. Alex shakes her head as she squeezes Ruby into a hug making the senior chuckle before she is tickled. “I’m not doing your dirty work, Get Lena to tell him. It might hurt less coming from her and technically he won't fight a pregnant Lena.” Alex joked knowing that no matter Ruby decided to go she would have everyone’s full support but she also knew that her godparents would brag to each other if Ruby chose their alma mater. Alex licked her lips, “Why don’t you head back and check on your mom for me?”
Ruby hummed softly, “I think I'd rather tell Uncle Winn about MIT than have Mom give me a thirty-minute lecture on how the test said pregnant, not disabled again .” The younger brunette left before she could hear any rebuttal from Alex but the news was enough to make Maggie’s jaw clench lightly. There was no anger in her eyes, Alex could see that. Alex could see it was mostly sadness. Maggie simply mumbles a light unbelievable, it feels like too much. There is a rush of emotion that washes through her and maybe she is regretting not giving in to Alex’s want for children because of the spark in Alex’s eyes as the pregnancy is mentioned. Maggie clears the emotion from her throat. Alex is happy and she is happy but all of a sudden she feels like she deprived herself of something amazing because she had been too scared.
Alex wants to speak but Maggie simply shakes her head before running off again. This time Alex doesn’t chase her because she knows there is nothing she can say to soothe things from how they happened. Alex knows that the timing wasn’t the best, but what mattered was they were truly happy. Sam made her way toward Alex with a slight frown, “Everything okay, my love?” The brunette asked as she handed over Jade who reached out for her mom as soon as she came in arms reach. Alex nodded, smiling at Jade kissing her cheek before kissing Sam, sighing happily into the kiss. She was truly happy. Sam smiled, leaving one more kiss against Alex’s lips. “Come on, let's find out what we are having this time around. Lena wants it to be a girl so our babies could be bffs.” Alex chuckled as she walked with her wife and daughter back to their family. Happiness was the only feeling they were all feeling as they found out they were having another girl. The only thing that made it better was that her daughter was gonna grow alongside her siblings and cousin. This is the life Alex had dreamed of.
