The secrets I hide (and the lies that protect them)

Summary:

The world we live in is one thriving with these superpowers called quirks. A superhuman society with about 80% of the population possessing some uncanny ability. Streets look like scenes from a comic book and with all this chaos and confusion a new profession arose.

Heros.

With the rise of superpowers came the explosive increase in criminal activity. Courageous and honorable people started performing heroic acts to keep our cities and citizens safe.

They protect us against villians. Those who abuse their powers for evil.

But what if there is more to the story.

What if there is an ancient species that still exists in this world. Thought as a myth. As something of stories or fairytales.

Most of the population are oblivious to the existence of these creatures. The fact that they hide away from human eyes doesn't help that matter at all.

How do I know. Well I'm one of them. My name is Izuku Midoriya, medically quirkless, but a dragon.

Chapter Text

'It's ok Izuku. You got this. Just a few more steps until you pass the gates.'

He knows that he went inside UA for the entrance exam but this was different. He was an actual student now. With an actual quirk and the reality to become an actual hero.

Excitement and nervousness clashed within him and buzzed around in his body. Taking a slow deep breath Izuku officially stepped into UA. His dream school.

In the building he walked through the long halls and twisting corners to try and find his class. He already knew the direction thanks to his awareness sense. He clutched the yellow straps of his bag with his hands as he continued walking in the way his sense led him to go. If he was correct then it should just be here.

Bingo.

Turning the corner he saw the bright sign over a large, abnormally large, door that said Class 1-A. Izuku puffed out his cheeks and readied himself to walk through the door. To meet his future classmates.

He had his hands on the thick steel door before his enhanced dragon hearing could hear yelling from inside the classroom. He sighed, knowing who it was before opening the door. As he opened the door he made sure all 7 of his senses were on. 7 senses being sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste, awareness and instinct.

He opened the door to see Kacchan and the glasses guy from the entrance exam.

"Get your feet off of that desk right now! It's the first day and your already showing disrespect to this school, you cretin!" Glasses boy had his hands in chopping motions and was swinging them up and down like a robot. He could take someone's head off like that.

"Huh!" Kacchan shouted with irritation. "Your old school put a stick up your ass or were you born with it?"

Ok so Izuku shouldn't find this amusing but he couldn't help but let out a small laugh at what the blonde said.

Both turned to look at him and he shrunk slightly at the attention.

The blonde had a scowl on his face but his eyes weren't angry. The robot arms boy rushed forward making Izuku stumble back slightly.

"I'm Tenya Iida from the Somei Private Academy. I remember you from the entrance exam. Your performance was certainly heroic and you even had known of the rescue points system."

Izuku shook his head furiously and waved his arms around. "A-ah! I w-was just doing what I thought was r-right. This is a hero school so I'm guessing that they had a point system for rescue as rescue is a big part of heroics." Izuku muttered out, voice getting quicker and quieter as he continued.

"Oi nerd." Kacchan called gruffly and viridian eyes looked up to meet crimson. The blonde jerked his head, gesturing for Izuku to go to him.

Izuku complied a bright smile on his face. "H-hi Kacchan. Did you need s-something?"

He waited until Izuku was right in front of him before answering him. "Yeh just... Tell me if everyone gets too much or whatever." He grumbled out, face turned away. Izuku smiled at his best friend and patted his shoulder gently.

"Thanks for worrying Kacchan. I'll hold you up to that offer though." He replied and went to sit in his seat that was directly behind the blonde.

As he sat down he could hear a ' I'm not worried damn nerd' being mumbled out from ahead. He huffed out in amusement and looked towards the class to realise that more people had arrived.

Someone approached him, brown hair in a bob and a big smile on their round head -god he was sounding like Kacchan. It's not his fault he doesn't know their names yet. It was the girl that he saved from the zero pointer. He was glad that she got into this class.

"Thank you for helping me in the entrance exam. I'm glad that you helped. You were so cool."

"Ah. It's no problem really." Izuku mumbled out rubbing the back of his neck nervously and slightly turning his head away.

"My name's Ochaco Uraraka. What's yours?"

"Izuku Midoriya." Izuku smiled politely. God he was awkward. She smiled before walking to talk to some people. Izuku took this opportunity to observe his surroundings.

In one corner a pink skinned and haired girl was talking animatedly to a blonde and a red haired boy. In the back a tall girl with a ponytail was talking to to a guy with a bird head while a purple haired girl walked up to them. At the front a guy with six -wow that's a lot- arms was nodding along to what a frog girl and brown-Uraraka her name was- were saying.

Looking behind him once more he saw a boy with heterochromic hair, spilt perfectly down the middle, half white and the other half red. He seems to be reading a textbook and was not aware of the loud chaos that this class currently was. Izuku felt something weird in his gut as he looked at the teen reading his book.

A shiver went down his spine as his instincts were telling him that something was about to happen. At the same time both Izuku and the bicolour haired boy turned their heads towards the doorway of the classroom to see something yellow and towards the ground slowly slink in.

His instincts calmed down and he realised that whoever -or whatever- that was wasn't going to be harmful in any way.

He kept his eyes on the yellow sleeping bag? until he saw a tired looking man begin to stand. Dark, tired eyes from within the sleeping bag met his and the teacher shot a sharp nod towards him.

"If your here to make friends then you can just leave." The class slowly turned silent as everyone turned towards the caterpillar like figure.

"It took you eight seconds to shut up and only two students noticed my presence. You kids are illogical. Time is precious. If you want to be heros your going to need to be more aware of your surroundings."

He could hear some mumbling from his classmates and the man stepped out of the sleeping bag, like a snake shedding skin. The man, which Izuku swore he could recognise walked out to stand behind the podium at the front of the class.

"Welcome to UA's hero course. Hello, I'm Shouta Aizawa. Your teacher."

He could hear sounds of surprise from those around him. A distinct "This guy's our teacher." Being spoken by a blonde boy with a black zigzag streak in his hair.

The man, their teacher, ignored them and held out a UA gym uniform.

"Grab a uniform from your lockers and make your way down to the main field in 10 minutes."

Without another word he walked out grabbing his yellow sleeping bag on his way out.

The students all went to the lockers at the back of the classroom and, with their uniforms, made their way to the change rooms.

The class walked in a big huddle small conversations going on that Izuku mostly ignored until he heard a bright and happy voice call out.

"Hey, you with the messy green hair!" On another occasion Izuku would have been offended but he was too shocked to say anything as he saw the pink girl from before meander around people to get to him.

Izuku remembers her from the entrance exam. She had some sort of acid thing that she used to destroy robots. Her quirk seemed very cool and definitely worthy of being in the hero course.

"H-hi." Izuku stuttered, curse his stuttering. Looking at her closer he realised that her eyes have a black sclera and yellow irises. It was quite cool really. And she had two small twisted yellow horns on her head and not to mention her pink skin and hair. 'Was that a mutation or is it part of her quirk. If it was was did it have something to do with the acid'.

"I remember you from the entrance exam." She interrupted his rushing thoughts and threw a first in the air. "You helped me when a robot was coming from behind me. Your really strong."

Izuku couldn't help the blush that transformed his face into a strawberry. He can't help it ok. He's just not used to complements. He stuttered out a thanks before she skipped off to go talk to a spiky red haired guy.

One by one they trailed out onto the field they were told to meet at.

Izuku was the first, followed closely by Kacchan, the ponytail girl, glasses boy and the boy with red and white hair. The rest of the class followed until they all stood in front of their teacher.

"You all took 20 minutes to fully get here. Because its your first day I'll be easy but I expect 10 minutes next time." The class rang out with 'yes sensei's'.

"What are we doing out here. What about the orientation assembly?" Uraraka asked waving her hand in the air.

Their teacher sighed and looked at her with his dead looking eyes. "As I am your hero course teacher I have the freedom to teach this class as I see fit."

He paused before continuing.

"Today we will be doing a quirk apprehension test. There will be 8 different tests that you may use your quirk on. You did something like this during middle school but now your able to use your quirks."

"We can use our quirks?"

"Woah, never done this before."

"This will be so much fun!"

Izuku winced at the last thing being shouted out.

"Fun? This isn't about being fun. This is about showing potential. The person to come last in this test will be deemed to have no potential and will be expelled."

The class was shocked into a second of silence and Aizawa Sensei shot everyone a slightly scary, too much teeth grin. "Now. Who's ready for some fun?"

If Izuku wasn't so worried he would have laughed. He didn't technically have a quirk meaning he often used his enhanced speed and strength to act as one. This was ok. He could do this.

"But,but that's not very fair!" The girl with the brown bob protested.

"The world isn't fair. It's a Hero's job to battle against the unfairness, to even the odds." Izuku understood what their teacher meant. As heros they have to go up against many things that wouldn't seem in their favour. It's up to them to do their best and find ways to turn the tables so they have a better chance of winning.

Izuku looked around at his classmates to see if they understood as well and he met the eyes of the red and white haired boy. 'Candycane' Izuku was going to refer to him as until he got his name. And wow. Wow were his eyes pretty. The right was a beautiful dove grey like the fluffy clouds you see in the sky and the left was a icy turquoise blue that you would only find in the beautiful open ocean.

'Argh stop being so sappy Izuku. Next thing you know you will be writing a poem about his hair.'

Realising that he was still staring he turned bright red and quickly looked away and Aizawa Sensei called his name.

"Izuku Midoriya. You got first in the entrance exam. What was your ball throw score in middle school."

Izuku momentarily froze. He wasn't allowed to do the fitness tests because he was 'fragile' and quirkless and 'could hurt himself'.

"Ah, around 60 meters." Izuku guessed and Aizawa Sensei held out his hand with a soft ball in it and Izuku stepped forward to take it.

"Now try with your quirk." Izuku nodded, determined and threw the ball in his hands lightly a few times to get the feel of it. He embraced the strength part of his dragon self, pushing down the urge to shift right now, and used it to launch the ball.

The ball flew from his hands and rocketed away with a slight boom of air pressure. The ball was mid-air for a few seconds before it came rolling to a stop. Aizawa Sensei held up a recording device and the score 748 meters were shown. Izuku could hear a chorus of his classmates saying that he did good. The spikey red haired boy even called him and he quotes 'super manly'.

At Aizawa Sensei's orders they did their quirk tests. Some people did good in most events while others only one or none. Even though it was unfair for the people with the non flashy quirks their teacher was right in saying that the word was unfair. Some people did really well and used their quirks in very cool ways.

Like the green haired frog girl, how she used her jumping for the sprint and the long jump. And using her tongue on the grip strength.

Another girl, the tall one with dark hair in a ponytail was using her quirk -some sort of creation thing- to make various useful items to help her in every test.

Kacchan also used his quirk very good. Explosions being used to make himself jump longer and run faster. Kacchan must have been practising with his quirk alot.

The one thing that bothered him was a small guy with purple ball shaped? hair and a creepy look in his eyes. Izuku didn't like the way that he drooled and stared at the females in their class and he can even see them get uncomfortable and move away from him. His protective dragon instincts were screaming at him to leave them alone but it seems that someone beat him too it.

It was Candycane.

"Excuse me." He said towering over the boy and putting himself between the group of girls and the small pervert. "You seem to be bothering these girls. I'll ask you to leave them alone and not say or do anything unwanted towards them." He shot the purple boy an ice cold glare and started walking away.

"But I wanna touch some boobs!" The little perv whined and rushed towards the creation girl in an attempt to grab her. Izuku and Candycane both stepped in the way to block him. Izuku let out an accident growl as a warning to stay away. His protectiveness was getting the best of him and he fought to not growl again. He did though, bare his sharper than normal teeth at the boy.

He shrieked and quickly scurried away like the peice of shit he was. And he wanted to be a hero. Izuku almost growled again when he felt eyes on him. The girls and Candycane were staring at him.

"Are you ok Momo?" Candycane asked the ponytail girl quietly and she nodded a shaky yet still there yes.

"Thank you for helping us you too!" The pink girl exclaimed.

"No problem."

"A-ah glad to help."

Both boys answered before the class continues with what they were doing. He meet eye contact with Candycane again who had a stoic almost bored expression. But Izuku, being good at reading people, could see a hint of confusion and interest. Like Izuku was a riddle he was meant to solve or something.

Izuku blushed and quickly looked away, pretending to be doing the next test.

"Alright everyone look for your name in the rankings."

The class collectively held their breath as they looked over the ranks. Izuku was in shock when he saw that his name was in second, right after creation girl. In third was someone called Shouto Todoroki -they must be very strong- and Kacchan was in fourth. Izuku looked at the 20th place for the poor soul who was getting expelled.

Minoru Mineta.

'Who's-'

His thoughts were cut off by a very distressed wail coming from the short perv. So it was him. Izuku couldn't help a small grin and a slight chuckle at that. From next to him he could hear Kacchan doing the same.

Aizawa Sensei turned to the boy with a disapproving and disgusted frown on his face. "Usually that would be a logical ruse to get you all to try your best." Purpleballs let out a small sigh of relief. "But your behaviour and attitude towards women and heroic work is appalling. Pack your stuff Mineta. Your expelled from the UA hero course."

"What!?" He shouted out with desperation. "How will I touch butts and boobs if I'm not a hero." He looked towards the girls, licked his lips and rushed towards them.

He didn't make a step and before anyone else could move a white cloth was wrapped around the boy, preventing him from getting to them. Everyone turned to their teacher to see that the scarf that he was wearing was actually a weapon of sorts.

His dark messy dark began to raise and his eyes glowed red. "If it was up to me you would never have been given a chance in this school. Disgusting behaviour like this deserves to be punished." His voice was calm and flat in a scary way. His appearance made him ever more scary and intimidating.

"Oh wow. Your the Erasure hero Eraserhead. Your a pro underground hero who specialises in quirkless fighting, a true feat. Your quirk is called Erasure, it erases any non mutant quirk within your eyesight as long as you don't blink. I though I recognised you somewhere but your quirk, capture scarf and yellow goggles confirms that-"

Izuku stopped his analysis realising that it had been dead silence for a while. Did he say that out loud.

Judging but the shock and speechless looks from everyone -sans Kacchan of course- he did. He flushed red from all the eyes on him and tucked his chin to his chest and curled his hands anxiously.

"That's true. Meet me at the teachers office after school today Midoriya."

And if that didn't scare him more. His heart stopped for a second in panic. 'Was he in trouble. And on his FIRST day.'

By now everyone was quietly talking to each other and didn't seem to pay him too much mind which was a relief.

"Class dismissed." Their teacher said, the perv still trapped in the weapon. "Tomorrow the real stuff begins."
