Chapter Text
"He is grown now my love it's time we let him go see for himself the atrocities that befall that island."
"My dear I do not see why you're so set on shipping our son over there, times have changed. We have changed can we not let those people be?"
"No, you know as well as I do that the moment, we lower our guard evil will seep back into our kingdom."
Steve could only take so much of their arguing before he decided to stop eavesdropping through the diary room door. If you asked him, he didn't see what the big deal was about this island. The people who are imprisoned there can't leave anyways, er-go there's no need for his mother to be so worried about 'evil' returning to the kingdom. Pushing the thought out of his mind he decided he was going to go visit the serving quarters in search of his best friend, Robin. You see he and Robin weren't always friends, something about him being a "Royal douchebag" as she would eloquently put it.
But during the last few years of her parents working in the castle, he's managed to win her over. And right now, he just needed someone to talk to that wouldn't just say what he wanted to hear.
It took no time for Steve to find Robin, more so to follow the sound of loud music down in the servant hall. As he poked his head around the corner, he was met with the sight of Robin sitting by a tub of water washing clothes while her saxophone played itself over in the corner. Careful to not startle her Steve rapped his knuckles on the door frame, resulting in Robin looking up while washing a shirt, which resulted in her spilling the bucket of water all on the ground. Steve chuckled while Robin glared at him and waved her hand to dry off her now-soaked khaki pants.
"Yea-yea it's so funny, what can I do for you today dingus," she said with a grin. Steve tried his best to look exasperated.
"You know you can't address me like that Robs." Robin just stared at him, if Steve's being honest if he hadn't seen her fall at least 3 times a week for the past 2 years, he might have been scared. But that was not the case. Steve just sighed and strolled into the room. Disregarding the now silent saxophone as he took in the state of the room. It seems Robin had been up to some hard training with her powers, as there were cracks in the walls, and the room smelled of sulfur.
"My parents are once again arguing over sending me to the Island, which frankly I'd rather they just sent me so I could get it over with!" Steve all but yelled.
Robin just smiled sadly. She knew how much Steve had on his plate, with his King coronation coming up and the endless stream of princesses coming to the kingdom in hope of winning Steve's hand. Under any other circumstances, Robin would be utterly jealous of the number of lady suitors that have been arriving. But she knew how stressful all of this was for Steve,
"Why don't you just go tell them you want to go?" Steve looked at her like she had grown a second head. Before he had a chance to respond Robin stood up,
"No think about it, you're tired of meeting princesses every day, you want a break and." Robin paused for a moment to let Steve wrap his head around the idea. "You could take me with you, I mean I won't be very much help, seeing as a can't even do a simple fire spell but hey, I've always wanted to travel." When she finished her rambling Steve finally decided he was ready to talk.
"I can't just ask you to come with me Robs, what about Vickie, I thought you were pursuing her at the moment you can't just leave for Lord knows how long." Steve finished looking dejected. "Look Steve, I think my best friend comes before a wood elf alright, go get your parent's permission, and you and I can make our great escape. At least for a week or two." After hearing Robins's response Steve was halfway out the door before, he turned back, "make sure you ask your mother too. I don't need her mad at me again Buckley." Robin just laughed and gathered her stuff. Maybe this adventure would be good for both of them.
