Chapter Text
Camilo. Was. Nervous.
He clasped the box in his hand, sitting on his bed as he thought to himself, 'Does she want this? Am I moving too fast? Give me a sign!' Honestly, he looked like a wreck, but still just as handsome as ever.
Tonight, you and your parents would come over for dinner, a proposal plot that everyone was aware of except for you. His father dressed him up, gave him some tips, and offered to stay with him, but Camilo needed some time to himself to gather his raging thoughts. He thought about going all out with a theatre performance, but in the moment, he thought of how silly that'd be, Abuela would never agree with that.
Why did there have to be so many people who could possibly see him embarrass himself? The male groaned into his palms, and he looked over to a picture of you. "Te amo con todo mi corazón." Your smile is so beautiful, that made all his worries wash away, he just had to be brave, the anxiety subsided slowly as he pictured the both of you holding hands as you vow to be with each other until death.
Camilo knew there was no one else he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, so it was now or never. He stood up, breathed in, and put the box in his pocket. There was a knock on his door, opening it he found Dolores smiling softly, "Are you ready to help us set the table?" "Yeah, uh I was just-" She cut him off, "I know you're nervous, but if it makes you feel any better, we don't have the house crumbling apart for this proposal." His sister giggled, taking his hand to lead him downstairs.
It smelled extremely wonderful in the casita, the work of Julieta and Abuela. The family looked at him and smiled to reassure him that everything would be fine. "My baby, you look wonderful, so handsome!" Pepa kisses his cheek as if he were still a baby. Camilo cries out for help; his mother stops to fix his hair and shirt. "I'm going to cry, but if I do it will rain..." She begins to tear up, Felix rushes to her side to keep her calm.
Camilo turned to the door when he heard a knock in a tune he recognized, it was you and your parents, to which he was still nervous around. Slowly, he walked to the door, but the casita was not having it, the tiles moved him faster and the door swung open. There you were, in your most beautiful dress (but he knew the wedding dress would look better.)
"Hola, mi amor." He kisses your hand lovingly, before transforming into your mother to embrace her, then your father to shake his hand politely. He never wanted to disrespect your parents, especially your mother. Although it took your father some time, they loved him and approved of him. Your mother adores his outgoing and entertaining personality.
The Madrigals go to greet the three of you, they always made you feel at home. Mirabel crushes you in a tight hug, and you feel Antonio right by your side with Pico on his shoulder. "My brother told me that you'd be my sister-in-law-" Mirabel pinched Antonio's cheek so he could stop talking and laughed, albeit very anxiously.
You hugged Pepa and Felix, who from day one considered you their own. Camilo held your hand to take you to your seat beside his, you could sense that something was off about him. Sure, he was the center of attention, making jokes and entertaining the lot, but you could see that something was on his mind.
You rubbed his hand, throwing him a concerned look to which he returned his usual smile ‘I’m fine love.’ You went back to enjoying the plantains, looking down to see that in his pocket, there was an object, and your heart skipped a beat. You may have been a bit sneaky and noticed some townspeople gossiping about Camilo and his future wife.
Could he have been ready to propose to you? There was always that conversation that you would have with him from time to time about the future, you even went as far as to ask Bruno at some point (he’d never tell). You just knew you would say yes anyway. The food was so flavorful, as expected, but your boyfriend wasn’t eating his arepas. Which was very strange.
The chair scraped on the floor as Camilo abruptly stood from his seat, muttering an “excuse me” to run out of the house. You were a bit saddened at this, were you the problem? You looked to your parents and his, “Go after him, maybe he needs you right now.” Your mother whispered, you excused yourself from the table to open the door, seeing your partner looking at the casita longingly.
“Camilo, my love,” You walked up to him, he was fidgeting with his fingers, so you took both of his hands to try and calm him down. “Is everything alright?” He breathed out, “Well now that I’ve seen you, I think I’m more than ok.” He said with a smirk, what a flirt. Your body ran hot, sputtering over your words “W-well yeah sure but, I meant before. You just walked away from everything, so something must be bothering you.”
Camilo reached in his pocket, pulling out the velvet box. “This is bothering me.” He held it up, your eyebrows were raised as you caught on. “I want to marry you, like so bad, and I am a wreck because I feel as if I’ll mess everything up.” He complains. Tears clumped at your lashes, and you hug him, putting your mouth at his ear. “Forget about ruining things, I want to be with you too. I want to say I do, I want little Y/Ns and Camilos running around, I want us to have our differences but then we work around them. I would love to marry you.”
He breathed out a huge sigh of relief, feeling the worry slowly lift off of his back. Camilo began wondering why was he worrying in the first place. Both of you didn’t see it, but everyone came outside to observe Camilo bending down on one knee, slowly opening the box. “Y/N, will you make the happiest I’ve ever been and walk down the aisle with me?”
You nodded, dragging him up to squeeze him as tightly as you could. He yelped as the ring popped out of the box and rolled off. “The ring!” Everyone cried.
