"Ow!”
Magical Girl Fiery Spark, otherwise known as Avery Palmer, glares up at the monster attacking the Inner Barrier. She regrets getting its attention now. It seemed like a good idea at the time…?
Yeah, no, not really.
The stupid ox-faced thing is ignoring her again, having apparently dismissed her as a chump. “Pay attention, you stupid fuck!” Avery barks out, shooting another dart of flame from one of the featherlike constructs of fire that surround her. It completely ignores her.
Alright. Time for desperate tactics.
Avery’s flaming feather/sword/whatevers gather into one big feather/sword/whatever, complete with her sigil burning at the base, and with a flick of her wrist she sends it jetting into the ox-faced motherfucker. That at least gets its attention and makes it leave off the Inner Barrier. “Yeah, come here, you little shit-- FUCK!”
With one toss of the ox-faced thing’s head, Magical Girl Fiery Spark gets flung across the street and into a wall. Her feather constructs reform, but they are, to put it kindly, sputtering. She didn’t even know they could give off smoke like this. Maybe it’d be helpful against bee monsters…
She pays for that thought as the ox-faced thing rams its horns at her. She rolls out of the way, barely, and sends more darts, but they don’t seem to be doing a whole lot besides annoying it.
Maybe I should have listened to Mom and Mama about going solo…
The next thing Avery sees is a blinding flash of lightning and accompanying BOOM of thunder. Her ears ring, her vision refuses to process briefly, and when it clears, she sees...another girl. A magical girl, obviously. A very pretty magical girl, with blonde hair and steely gray eyes and electric sparks still crackling around her.
“Dude,” Avery says, because she’s incapable of expressing gratitude like a normal fucking person. “You always that loud?”
“You’re welcome,” the other girl says, offering her a hand up.
Avery takes the other girl’s outfit in more thoroughly, and, slowly, it occurs to her that it looks quite similar to her own. Especially...the heart-shaped sigil...on her chest...Hers has a lightning bolt through the heart instead of Avery’s fluffy feather-fire, but still.
“Uh,” Avery says, because she has many strengths, but talking to hot new thematic teammates who just saved her stupid ass isn’t one of them.
“Miriam,” the other girl offers, obviously realizing that she has to carry this conversation. “Magical Girl Static Shock, though uh, I guess that’s about to change? The CDD didn’t mention this. You’re not one of those idiots who runs around unregistered, are you?”
“First night,” Avery manages. Be smooth be smooth be smooth be cool. “Just registered this morning.”
“So you’re still going to normie school?” Magical Girl Static Shock asks. “And you went out alone? Before you even knew if you had teammates?”
Avery scowls. She doesn’t like the direction this conversation is going. “Fuck off, I can handle myself.”
“Yeah, you were handling yourself great,” Miriam says agreeably. “Look, let me stick with you at least the rest of the night? We can talk about teaming up later, but I don’t even think it’s midnight and…” She gestures at Avery’s traitorous feathers, which are still smoking and sputtering.
“Yeah,” Avery decides is the safest answer. Half her brain is just now catching up to the fact that her first night out was almost a catastrophe, and the other half is busy with there’s a hot girl holding my hand.
“Cool,” Miriam says, giving her a shit-eating grin that makes Avery revise her initial reading of stickler for rules to someone I could have fun with. “Let’s go beat some monsters’ butts."
