Chapter Text
Muffled screeching filled the dark bedroom. The only light was coming from the now paused video game. A person was lying on the ground screaming into the cushion they were hugging just before. Switch controllers at their side. (Y/N) paused their suffering to sit up slowly.
“Fuck this.” Taking the controllers and continuing their process, “who in the hell thought 120 shrines was a good idea?!” (Y/n) started to grumble to themselves “Oh play Breath of the Wild again! They said. It will be fun! They said. It’s not like I just finished 100 precenting it yesterday.” That was a lie. It was a few months ago. They knew that getting all the shrines wasn’t worth it. They could just deck Ganon in the face again right now if they wanted. Yet here they were. Still trying to beat Myahm Agana at 3:30 am. All because they were too stubborn to let one shrine beat them.
“Oh, Link. Hunny, I’m so sorry.” They mumbled as they watched him miss the jump onto the labyrinth and fall into the pit below. Only to respond and do the exact same thing right when they got back control. “GOD LINK IM SO SORRY.” (Y/n)’s voice was breaking as they try to keep their screeching down to not disturb their neighbors.
Finally, 4 am rolled around and finally (Y/n) was at the goddess statue at the Temple of Time ruins. Gathering all the heart containers finally getting everything, other than the korok seeds. That was a special sort of hell they want nothing to do with. “Sleep first… Deck Ganon when functional” Saving their process and turning off the switch. (Y/n) stands up stretching.
They finally collapsed half on the bed only to adjust themselves to be fully on and comfortable.
Luckily drifting to sleep was easy.
Dreams are weird. (Y/n) had a lot of dreams if they're honest. Most of them are vague and confusing with no meaning behind them. Most of their dreams are forgotten as soon as they woke up.
This one was different than the others.
They couldn’t explain how they knew but the fact that it was an out-of-body experience watching as (Y/n) saw themselves wandering around in a forest they could only vaguely recognize. The confusing part about this whole thing was that dream (Y/n) was wearing their LARP outfit for their up-and-coming event. Following a small green light. The orb reminded them of a fairy from Zelda as it jumped up with a chime. Before bolting forward with the dream (Y/n) following close behind.
“There you are!” A man’s voice rings out behind the trees out of sight.
“Sorry,” dream (Y/n) slowed down to a stop. Real (Y/n) couldn’t see who the man was it was only a group of silhouettes. “Is it time to go?”
“Another portal was just found,” someone with a deeper voice answered it was the voice of one of the taller men. He lifted his hands up so the glow of light could rest there, “thank you little one for finding them.”
Dream (Y/n) sputtered offended that they had sent the small fae-like creature to find them. They couldn’t hear the rest of the conversation as they walked away into a place real (Y/n) couldn’t get to.
Soon everything started to fade away.
“Soon you all will meet again.” A female voice was only above a whisper, (Y/n) suddenly got heavy then dropped further into the void.
It felt like they were body slammed into their bed. (Y/n) groaned in pain as the sensation of being shoved into the bed then the lack of sleep was making their head hurt. They turned to their side lifting up to see the time on their phone. 1 pm… it was 1 pm. “Fuck.” (Y/n) groaned rolling off of their bed hitting the floor not expecting the edge to be there. “GAH!” Tangled and twisted up in the bedsheets they stared up at the ceiling.
The ringing of their phone caught the attention of the poor tied-up person. (Y/n) lazily maneuvered to the side see’s that the ID was Aria, sighing they picked up. “I’m alive.”
“Good morning to you too,” the snarky voice of their friend comes out of the phone. Groaning (Y/n) struggles finally to untie themselves making sure to put their friend on speaker. “I would ask if you can come in early to help rehearse some scenes for the event but are you up to it?”
“I can come,” They finally kicked off the last pick of the blanket. “Give me like…” Starting to do the math in their head and quickly failing “just let me get ready and get breakfast. Do you need me in costume?”
“If you want, this could act as a pre dress rehearsal for you- JAMES!” A crash was heard in the background followed by a commotion. There was a pregnant pause then a sigh ”I have to go. “
(Y/n) didn’t even blink at the chaos, “have fun with that.”
“I will not.” Finally, she hung up.
There was something very weird wearing what was in essence a cosplay in public. One black long wool jacket, blue cotton tunic with real chain mail underneath, and beige cotton undershirt later. They looked straight out of a video game. (Y/n) had brought along an overnight bag just in case.
Aria’s group was also a theater company that (Y/n) worked with as a stage combat instructor. The small town they lived in was surrounded by a forest. The event was being held at the college campus further up on the foothill. Each building has the same architecture as an old castle making it the best place to host the fantasy LARP.
Pulling into the campus’s parking lot. (Y/n) shuffles through their stuff to make sure they wouldn’t leave anything behind. When they sat back up, they turned forward to stare straight into the hazy green glowing blurs leading into the forest. They squint in an attempt to make the hazy blur go away (Y/n) rubbed their eyes and when they looked back the colors were gone. “Ah, good” They push the door open as they stepped out of the car “I’m going crazy.”
