Chapter Text
Steadily, the car approached the decrepit house. Cobwebs adorned the sullen manor, as creeping vines hung from every overhang. Crowd cawed discordantly, bringing an ominous air to the open moor. The house awaited its next victim, to consume, and drag down to its murky depths, leaving no traces.
Steve Arnott, dressed in his usual tailored waistcoat and suit, left his car and sauntered towards the derelict mansion. A thought played in the back of his head screaming for him to turn back, to leave, but he paid it no attention. He crossed the deserted, overgrown front garden.
As soon as he opened the door, a pungent smell washed over him, confounding his senses. The house was musky and freezing cold. Tangy mould covered the peeling, ebony walls. Now thoroughly nauseated, he made his way through. A slow trickling of water echoed across the silent house, combined with a damp smell. Someone had left the water on for a considerable length of time, he remarked.
The trickle steadily grew louder as Steve moved closer towards the source. Floorboards creaked immensely when the littlest pressure was put open them. At this point, Steve was wondering why someone would send him here. Maybe they wanted to send me away on a wild goose chase. He wasn’t exactly overjoyed when he was told by the gaffer to head over to the middle of nowhere to meet an anonymous witness.
Steve stopped. He found the source, emanating the trickling sound. It seemed to be a bathroom door but what did Steve know, all the doors were exactly the same. Straining, Steve opened the door. Jesus it was heavy. Almost... too heavy. The room beyond the door was pitch black. For some reason, he was reluctant to enter the room. Sighing at his own stupidity he stepped cautiously into the room.
The world flipped.
