Bio-Early life:
Cassandra was born on June 22, 1992, in Mystic Falls and lived there peacefully for 17 years, with her twin sister, Elena, her parents, Miranda and Grayson Gilbert, as well as with her brother, Jeremy. They led a quiet small town life, free of the supernatural. However, Cassandra and Elena will learn that they are adopted and their biological parents are John Gilbert, their uncle, and Isobel Flemming. John's brother Grayson and his wife Miranda, who desperately wanted to have children but were having difficulties conceiving, adopted Cassandra and Elena following their birth. Because Grayson was a doctor, he was able to tamper with the birth records, making himself and Miranda appear as the twins' biological parents on her birth certificate. If anyone ever became suspicious, they would have the birth certificate as documentation proof.
On May 23rd, 2009, Cassandra Gilbert got into a fight with her now ex-boyfriend Tyler Lockwood while at a bonfire party after she found out he was cheating on her with Vicki Donovan.
- Matt and Elena broke up at some earlier point.
When Cassandra was waiting for a ride home from her parents, she met Damon Salvatore for the first time, though he compelled her to forget about their encounter before she left.
Cassandra's parents, Grayson and Miranda, took Wickery Bridge instead of the direct route of Old Miller Road because the storm from the previous day had broken off a branch to a tree that knocked down a powerline. This same storm kept them from surprising their children with visit to their lake house that weekend.
When they were driving Cassandra home, they got into an accident that caused their car to fall off Wickery Bridge and into the river below.
Stefan Salvatore saw the accident and dove into the water to rescue them. Grayson Gilbert insisted that Stefan save Cassandra first, so he freed her from the car and left her on the shore to be found by EMS. However, when he went back for Grayson and Miranda Sommers-Gilbert, they were already dead.
- Realising the resemblance to his former friend, Ally, Stefan finds her personal records and observing her from afar,, and therefore discovering that Elena looks like Katherine, Stefan determined that Cassandra was not Ally, and Elena was definitely not Katherine.
These events also seemed to trigger Cassandra's psychic powers causing her to withdraw from those around her, who blamed her parents' death as the reason for it.
Personality
Cassandra is understanding, funny, mischievous, and, in contrast to her twin sister, a little immature. Cassandra's shown countless times to be good with kids and members of the opposite sex. Cassandra is an avid fan of classic rock music. Cassandra values her family's safety over anything else.
Even though Cassandra keeps herself in excellent physical shape, she is known to have very bad eating habits. She is often shown enjoying greasy, fattening or otherwise unhealthy food, especially cheeseburgers and pie, and dismisses salads as "rabbit food."
Cassandra is terrified of flying and claims that is the reason why she drives everywhere.
Cassandra has also shown on several occasions that he is an avid fan of movies, particularly westerns.
Cassandra is both extremely intelligent and competent.
She is more likely to exhibit irrational behavior when her family is threatened.
Cassandra enjoys the uncomplicated things in life, such as good food and television. She almost constantly displays some level of humorous behavior, and frequently makes light of tense situations. She sometimes appears foolish due to this habit, but this seems to be merely her means of dealing with stress.
Cassandra is very prone to giving second chances, does not believe in no-win scenarios, and is entirely willing to be tortured or killed in defence of her family and friends.
Currently, Cassandra is still grieving for her parents, as well as suffering through survivor's guilt and anger directed at Tyler and Vicki.

Without her humanity, Cassandra becomes a much darker individual whilst still keeping a few pieces of her former self.
Dark!Cassandra still enjoys the uncomplicated things in life, such as good food and television, but to a much higher level. She feels no responsibility to her family and friends, instead opting to submerge herself in the things that she wants to do regardless of how that affects those around her.
She is totally willing to betray and turn her back on those she formerly cared for.
Physical Appearance
Physically, Cassandra is a very beautiful and attractive young woman with an oval face, light olive complexion, almond-shaped green eyes, and long dark brown hair. Her height is 5'6"(168 cm), and she has a slim, slightly athletic physique. Cassandra has an uncanny physical resemblance to her ancestor and doppelgänger, Alina Petrova, much in the same way Elena shares a physical resemblance to Katerina Petrova.
Cassandra often wears black dresses jeans, skirts, tank tops, vests, as well as, black or red boots, knee-high grey wool stockings, along with jewellery, topped with a red leather jacket.
