She finds herself watching old testing tapes. Videos of Chell mechanically solving puzzle after puzzle, through grainy footage and terrible angles provided by Chell’s stubborn insistence to rip cameras from the walls. She watches as Chell shakily destroys her companion cube. It seemed so simple at the time.

GLaDOS, out of the goodness of her mechanical heart, is helping a stubborn Chell learn to talk when a violent thunderstorm interrupts the two. As tempting as it would be to send the monstrous test subject back to the surface, GLaDOS offers to let her stay the night.
