Summary
"Do you remember when the tsunami took out the 136 and they temporarily reassigned everyone?"
Buck bites his tongue. He probably doesn't remember as well as say…Eddie, Lena Bosko's time at the 118. A lingering guilt and bitterness asks that Buck remind Chimney that he wasn't there so why should he remember the temporary team. However, he remembers all too clearly her name taped over his own.
"Yes."
"Well, that flooding a few weeks ago hit the 217. They were set to be operational after a day or two but the city found some structural damage."
Buck wishes he was as dumb as some people thought he was because all these puzzle pieces fit very cleanly together.
;or
Tommy is temporarily reassigned back to the 118. It doesn't take long before his mere presence takes its toll on Buck.

"Here's the game kid. We take turns pulling the trigger. That simple."
That's the only preamble he gets before a click resounds throughout the room. Buck tastes bile at the back of his throat, shoved there by his racing heart. Blood pools in his ears. But his eyes, they remain wide open. He watches his breath fog on the silver frame of the gun.
"Spoiler Alert. I always win." Then he's flipping the gun around, offering it handle first to Buck.

Summary
"What happened?" He stays relaxed in his couch with his beer held loosely between his legs. Buck doesn't twitch or react in any way to signal that he heard him. His eyes are locked on the wall like it's the train wreck that has him shutting down.
"Buck." Eddie leans forward. The sweat has started to dry into a sticky film that pulls his skin taut.
"Tommy—" He inhales on a hiccup. His lips ghost across the top of his beer, but at least he's no longer inhaling it like he needs it, "He broke up with me."

Or; Buck has immediate rebound sex with his bestie.

Summary
"I wasn't—" Buck raises his voice, cracking in that nervous way it does. His equally nice shoes squeak against the kitchen tile as he jogs to catch up with Eddie. He turns his head to catch the rest of Buck's sentence. The red velvet stretched across his legs ripples under the low restaurant lights. Do the pants even fit him? Buck lowers his voice as his bumps shoulders with Eddie, "I wasn't counting cards. I'm just good at poker, okay? Reading people."
"Reading people?" Eddie asks. Those kitchen lights are really doing a number on his vision. He can't focus on Buck's face. "Since when are you good at reading people? Since when are you good at poker?"
Buck's hand is still occupied with holding his jacket over his shoulder. His bicep threatens the seams, much like it does when he wears the short-sleeve version of his uniform. Get a bigger size, he thinks. He waves palm up at Eddie with his other hand as his stumbles over his words.
"Don't answer that." Eddie says.
--
Or; Buck and Eddie have a completely platonic quickie in the back of Eddie's truck after that poker game because damn, does Buck look good in jewel tones.
