All Izuku remembers is pain. Not just physical, but emotional. He could still smell the burning flesh, hear the sickening sizzle of his mother’s wedding ring melting into her charred flesh. He could still feel the phantom tug on his curls as his father held him still, giving him no choice but to watch his mother take her final breath. That night, Izuku’s hope of leaving this god forsaken place vanished along with his mother.
He wasn’t going to die, no. But he will wish he had.
