The plastic crinkles as Tim pulls the bag open. Several tapes softly clack around inside. He looks back up at Jay.
“You said ‘no more secrets,’” Jay explains. “…you’re not the only one who’s been hiding things, and…well, these were never gonna be posted on the channel, but it didn’t feel right to get rid of them. …at the same time, though, it also didn’t feel right to keep these from you any longer. Not anymore, anyway.”

Now, clean and groomed, he really did make a nice-looking cat. His fur fell in smooth waves, all soft and silky, and he took this opportunity to also take a look at the other parts of his new body he hadn’t seen before. As he thought, he had four feet and paws, furry body and –he spun around– a tail. Well. That’s going to take some getting used to. He still wasn’t any closer to figuring out why he was here or why he suddenly had the body of a cat, but for now, he would make the best of it.”

For 81 long years, Bilbo felt a perpetual emptiness. A melancholy permanently etched into his heart. He had his nephew and his friends, yet something was missing, a gap in his life left hollow. It shouldn't be. Not really. He'd known them for a mere one year. Yet in that one year they had etched themselves into his soul. Just as they dug into stone, they had dug their way into his life.
His dwarves.When they died it had felt wrong, as if the world had misstepped and by mistake taken from middle earth what it sorely needed. Taken its breath, stolen its sunlight. The fire within the forge had been put out and grown as cold as the stone surrounding it. Bilbo knows it wasn't meant to be that way, knows they were meant to live.
When Bilbo gets a second chance to keep that fire alive, he makes darn sure he fans the flame.

“It’s got such a presence to it, even from a distance,” Bilbo says softly, and there’s a general murmur of awed agreement from the others. “Why, in all my fifty years, I never thought I’d see such a thing, and we haven’t even arrived yet!”
Thorin’s sword hits the ground with a clatter, and Balin chokes on his pipe.
The hobbit doesn’t look at Thorin, too busy thumping Balin on the back. Once the dwarf seems able to breathe again, he looks up, to find thirteen wide pairs of eyes fixed on him.
“What?” he says defensively, though he’s not sure what he’s defending.
“You’re how old?” Kíli squeaks.
Bilbo frowns at the young dwarf. “I’m fifty years old. Well, fifty-one, come springtime. Though it is not very polite to ask someone their age so bluntly,” he tells him primly.
Fíli makes a choked sound, and Nori lets out a vicious string of swears in Khuzdul.

Bilbo ponders whether he's meant to be on this quest. He accidentally finds Thorin whilst trying to not bother (avoid) the others in Rivendell's garden. The two figure out they may not be as different as they thought.
Or: A fic based off that scene Richard Armitage talks about where Thorin talks to Bilbo about his upbringing amongst the fireflies in Rivendell. It was sadly never released, even in the extended edition, so I made it myself. And now it's gay.
