Conrad wasn’t entirely sure when the whole thing had actually started. Though he could clearly remember a day when he was five and Belly, all of three years old, had followed him on chubby legs all the way around the backyard of the summer house, only to cry and wail when Conrad had dared to venture past the yard and down to the beach. He remembered his mom laughing and telling Laurel with a fond smile on her face that “someone has a little admirer.”
