Arthur shakes his head incredulously. "Would you like it in writing?" he asks sincerely. "I'll do it, you know. Dear Idiot, I've never so much as considered shagging anyone else and never will. I need a queen. Not a wife. And certainly not right now. Yes, I have noticed your completely unsubtle attempts at making a clean break--really, Merlin, a tower? You have to live at the top of a tower? When the fuck did we get a tower? It wasn't here before. You do not lie well. Go to sleep before I forget I'm not allowed to beat you to death. Love, Arthur."
Merlin slow-blinks his opinion of this (favourable). "I have no idea why I fell in love with you."
"I could say the same, you prick." Arthur kisses him again, sweetly soft, then pulls back, eyes narrowed.

Summary
Slowly, Mystery Man raises his head. And when his eyes meet Dean’s again, they are so full that Dean is nearly leveled by it. Just. There’s love there, affection, fondness, all in that haunted cornflower blue. They’re greedy, too, like they’re consuming every detail. Dean forgets to breathe. “You sure this guy ain’t dead?” he manages. “Cause you’re looking at me like the last time you saw his mug was ten years ago.”
Mystery Man inhales sharply but doesn’t so much as blink. “He’s very much alive. He made pancakes this morning.” No further elaboration.
“Right…” Dean says a little awkwardly. “Well, since this is happening, apparently, what’s your name?”
Now, Mystery Man hesitates, frowns. Finally, he says, “My name is Cas.”

There is drunken hooting and the clack of pool balls in the background, but they sizzle into white noise in Dean’s ears, and Dean is having trouble breathing properly. He blinks rapidly against the swell of it. Because Cas is- is lit from the inside, somehow, where every awkward, severe, kind part of him overlaps into adoration that’s so big it’s almost hard to listen to. And Cas is staring into Dean while he says it. And he just keeps going.

Summary
When long-ago humans felt this level of devotion, they erected temples to the objects of their attention. Cas could build monuments if he chose; he could twist stone and metal and clay into a structure visible from space and it would still be insufficient. He could rewrite the galaxy, as seen from Earth, into the pattern of Dean’s freckles in warm sunlight, and it wouldn’t be fair tribute.
“You are become my altar,” he murmurs, and Dean huffs out a small laugh.
“You’re so weird,” he says, fond, and Cas smiles at him.

or, a noble badly injures Merlin and challenges him to a duel; Arthur slowly unravels as the date approaches. Absolutely DELICIOUS Arthur characterization; also Merlin being a good servant as a form of psychological warfare, and Morgana comparing their relationships with their servants to marriages. 100/10
