    But her mother disagreed. Even worse, Berk seemed to disagree. And as Astrid got older she watched Chief Stoick grow further and further disappointed with his heir, watched Hiccup sink further into public scorn. She watched, and she waited, for the moment her Chief might disagree as well.
    Fighting her mother was one thing, but fighting Chief Stoick the Vast was another.
    So she trained. And trained. And trained. The way she saw it, she had one way out of this. You can’t marry me to your son, Astrid pictured herself arguing, I’m far too valuable as a warrior.
    She wanted to save her people, just not like that.
    Please, not like that.

    When Astrid made decisions, she stuck to them, no matter what other people thought. So what if her mother wanted her to marry and be a good wife? Astrid was a warrior. It was that simple.
