Sonic seemed to try to shake himself awake, twitching both of his ears out of sync, and flinging… something out of his quills over Shadow’s floor.
“Gimme a sec…” he mumbled.
Why was he so lethargic?
“No,” Shadow growled, “stay awake.”
“Alright, whatever…” Sonic muttered, groaning as he sat himself up properly. “What’s… What’s going on?” He squinted at Shadow. “…I’m supposed to know you, aren’t I?”

Summary
Sonic didn’t have commitment issues. Okay, he got how it looked to his friends. It certainly seemed like he had a problem, especially when he was the one calling the relationships off, but he didn’t. There was no problem.
“You were going to jump out of the car to get away from your date?” Shadow asked, like he didn’t believe what he just heard. Yeah, hearing Shadow repeat that back to him did make Sonic question his choices, just a little.
(Behind Sonic’s back, his best mates laughed and they nicknamed him "The Bolter")

Summary
One thing Shadow does not do is maintain eye contact, so Sonic is a little caught off guard by how intense it is. Suddenly over-thinking if he's blinking too much.
"Your pupils are different sizes," Shadow announces, scowling as his eyes flicker between Sonic's.
"Uuh. Cool….?"
"No, that's not 'cool', you idiot. You have a bleeding head wound and a concussion."
"Okay, it's not THAT bad. It only bled a little -"
"Who let you out of their sight in this condition?"
"What, are you gonna hunt them for sport?"
"I might."
"Okay. Don't do that."
/Sonic is hurt and Shadow. Helps? This might as well happen.
