It wasn't supposed to go like this.
Steve was supposed to work with Robin at the Family Video, flirt with the many many girls who came to browse the expansive selection of VHSes, go on some dates, and hopefully find The One.
It was supposed to be a notably upside-down free year.

Honestly, there is a small (maybe not that small part) of Eddie that’s expecting to get punched for this, but that’s not what Steve does. Eddie’s pretty sure it’s not loud enough for anyone else to hear, thankfully, over the sound of whatever explosions were currently playing out on the screen in front of them, but Eddie does. A breathy little noise, almost like a purr, when Eddie’s nails just barely skitter over Steve’s scalp.

I’m supposed to be wooing you here and all I’ve succeeded in doing is making you think I’m an even bigger asshole than you already probably do,” Steve groans, head in his hands. “Can’t wait to tell Robin to add another tally mark to her board about how much I suck. This is one for the record books.”
Eddie was listening, really, he was. But then Steve had said wooing and everything kind of got lost after that. He’s still stuck on that, whispering it to himself like it’s a word in the English language he’s never heard before in his life. “So you’re — this is — actually a date? This — this is wooing me?”

Steve knows this already, technically, because Robin has been talking his ear off about this project for three weeks now — one of the last ones she’s gotta do before she’s free, Steve, finally free! — and that had certainly been annoying enough. And now that the prospect of having to be involved was hanging over his head like an ax about to fall, well, now it’s really annoying.
He might even be downright peeved.
