You’ll be next to a Swedish prince – no, a princess – no, a prince. Jeez, the font on these emails is too small. David, can you hand me my glasses?
As promised, Shane was seated beside a prince. He was obscenely beautiful. His hair reflected a white-gold twinge in the sun, with eyebrows to match, fading into his browbone. A straight nose, rose-bud lips, and skin as smooth as porcelain. A glittering diamond hanging off one earlobe. Objectively beautiful. Regrettably not who he wanted.
Or: What if, post-tuna meltdown, Ilya gets injured and the All-Stars reunion never happens. Shane and Ilya don't make up. Shane actually goes to Wimbledon that year and gets a lot more than he bargained for.

Oh my god, I didn't know there were any copies of this left on the internet. For those who don't know, this is like. This is a foundational text of hockey RPF. This is from before hockey RPF was really a thing even. It's from the mid-aughts and wasn't posted to a fanfiction website. Instead, OP dropped this insane RPF manifesto onto a normal ass hockey fan forum (which no longer exists) then deleted their account like two days later. Just handed this to a bunch of jocks and hockey bros and dipped. Legendary shit. Like, I don't think this kid even knew what fanfiction was, the fucking hand of god just compelled him to write about being an MLH player's sex slave and show it to the world. I pray every day that this insane child actually made it to the MLH and got to meet Scott Hunter.
So maybe Shane had a little crush on Scott Hunter in his younger years. So maybe he anonymously posted online about it once. So maybe it had become an internet legend and a running joke in the MLH.

Except — wait. This is perfect. Hockey is the other way that Ilya knows Shane better than anyone else in the world. Sex may be Ilya’s favorite shared language with Shane, but hockey is their first. And it’s the perfect way to show Shane that nothing has changed.
They can be Shane and Ilya together on Ilya’s couch, in Shane’s apartment, in the million hotel rooms in between. But they can still be Hollander and Rozanov on the ice, playing hard and fast and viciously competitive.
Ilya will show Shane that, tomorrow. He’ll play a great game of hockey, no, the best game of hockey he’s ever played, and Shane will know that it’s okay, that they’re okay. And then Shane will text him after the game and they’ll fall back into bed again and Shane will take his clothes with him when he leaves, happy and sated and Ilya’s, again.
Ilya flops back onto his bed, grinning at the ceiling. He has a plan, a great plan, better than the tuna melt idea. Tomorrow, they’ll play hockey. Tomorrow, Ilya will get his man back.

“Don’t fucking look at him,” Ilya insisted as he bent down for the faceoff.
“Excuse me?” Hayden mumbled, eyes darting back to him.
“You heard me,” he retorted, his tone clipped. “He’s not your teammate anymore; he’s mine. If you think Marlow is a problem to your game, wait until you see what I will do to your team if you hurt anyone on mine again.”
Hayden scoffed, dipping his head as he tried to focus on the game. Something about Ilya’s words still rang through his head though, sounding so definitive that he didn’t want to risk seeing what he was actually referring to when he said that.
The puck dropped again, and Ilya stole it before he could comprehend how quickly it happened.
