Summary
Danny would do absolutely anything to make Steve stay. Anything. Even touch a dick.
Or in which there are unrequited (requited) feelings, a lot of confusion, Grace is a bad-ass, Danny has to figure himself out before he loses his chance forever, and no one is as incompetent at their jobs as canon would like us to believe.

Summary
Hands grab him from the vest and drag him through ash and soot, a hole where the adjoining wall to the bathroom used to be. His vision swims and the ringing on his ears intensifies. The world takes a dive again and he retches dry. There’s constant ringing that goes up and down in intensity and only a handful of words filter through the haze in his head. Steve's been injured amidst a case that either makes or break careers, and is benched for the foreseeable future. He's edgy, he's frustrated, he's struggling towards physical and emotional recovery. The only easy day was yesterday, he tries to remind himself, though the motto doesn't always apply to civilian life.
A story about regaining balance, the power of love, and the subtleness of change. In the end, it's all about ohana.

"You know what? Yesterday--if it was just yesterday, and not, say, six months ago--I was watching my partner kick yet another door in and I was thinking that the only things I had to worry about were Steve getting us killed, Grace's eventual dating, and if I was ever going to find an apartment that wasn't infested with cockroaches, black mold or ghosts of old ladies in funny hats. And now, suddenly, I find out that the entire fucking universe is a giant terrarium project populated with aliens that want to kill us. And you two, apparently, live in another galaxy and don't seem to think there's anything weird about that. Does that sum up the situation here? Or did I miss something?"
