Summary
Later, they’ll say it was shock. That’s why she didn’t react. They’ll call it a freak accident—bad luck on a difficult skill. The doctors will exchange careful looks when she asks how soon she can get back on the mat.
She’ll nod along. She’ll play her part.
But she’ll know the truth.
It wasn’t shock. It wasn’t an accident. She had prepared for the pain. She had made the choice.
And when the doctors tell her they can’t be sure if—or when—she’ll return to gymnastics, the breath she lets out isn’t from disappointment.
It’s from relief.—or: Trinity learns how to accept help after by fucking a lot of other stuff up

Summary
Trinity was supposed to be off the clock in an hour when she got dragged into an incoming trauma. She never expected to end up holding a live rocket lodged in the patient’s chest.
With every second that passes, Trinity realizes that if the bomb goes off, the one thing she’ll regret most is leaving behind the woman she loves without ever telling her.

Summary
Everything after that happens too fast to think and slow enough that Trinity will replay it later in punishing detail, her brain an endless loop of cause and effect. The patient wrenches his other wrist free, the restraints tied improperly at its connection point to the bed—fucking newbies. He seizes the opportunity immediately. Trinity would notate that point on her neuro exam (patient alert) if she weren't more focused on Yolanda at her side, in optimal reaching distance.
The angle isn't great. Yolanda is bent over him and she sees movement in her periphery a fraction too late, eye widening as Trinity calls, "Watch out!"

Summary
“I’m not a fucking Uber driver, Trinity,” is the first thing she hears when she picks up. Brilliant. So it’s a Trinity kind of night, then.
“Great.” She takes another draw of her vape, forcing herself to focus on the overwhelming sweetness of sour watermelon rather than the thinly-veiled needle of irritation that pulses through Yolanda’s words. “So, you’re not gonna charge me fifty bucks for a two mile drive, then?”
A sigh. If she closes her eyes, she can picture her expression: brow pinched, jaw clenched, neck vein activated. She’s probably rubbing at the bridge of her nose right now, exasperated as she always seems to be when Trinity’s involved these days.
