Rooster buys a set of tickets to a Fourth of July fireworks show for an upcoming first date. To his dismay, the date falls through, and now he's stuck with an extra ticket to the best fireworks show in the city. Maverick has no plans, other than working on his latest motorcycle restoration project and eating leftovers from this week.
So when Rooster asks him at work if he'd like to join him for the show, Maverick doesn't mind the idea of spending extra time with Rooster. After all, it's a long weekend, he really should get out and do something to celebrate his country.

The simple truth of it was that Jane was scared. It was an unusual and wholly unwelcome feeling, one that Jane was unaccustomed to. He knew that Lisbon expected sex, that she was waiting for it. The idea that she might have certain expectations of him was frightening. He was out of practice, out of his comfort zone, and overcome by the depth of his own desire for her.
The sure-footed, arrogant Jane that she'd known for the last fourteen years had no standing here. He felt embarrassingly like a teenage boy around her now. Poised on a hair trigger, unable to gather his composure.
